Go to the trade-in page first and unload an older kindle or echo device. Even if all you get is $5 you'll also get a 20% off credit to apply to bring this even lower.

Did exactly this. With the trade-in value of my 2018 kindle ($20) and the 20% off a new device, total price came down to $136.91.

I traded in my old kindle, but the 20% discount was not applied. I contacted Amazon customer service. They said they will do the 20% refund once my trade-in kindle is received.

Is this better than just using my old iPad (2021)?

The color will be better on an iPad but I find eink much easier on my eyes. Reading for a few hours on an iPad or phone leaves my eyes tired in a way eink doesn't. It's also nice how long the battery lasts; I charge my b&w one monthly at most. If I leave my iPad on the counter unused for a week I come back to find it dead. Eink is also a lot lighter to hold up if you're laying down.

Here are the release dates for all the Kindles. Seems like they release every 2-3 years. Take it for what it's worth. With a trade-in of an older device and the additional 20% off a new kindle, this is a great deal.

Would never buy a Kindle again after they pulled all the crap they did with the old Kindle by disabling them, and they're still working perfectly fine!

Do we think Signature Edition will have a similar price drop? With Prime Day so soon, I'm not sure if I want to pull the trigger now and use the quarterly trade in slot...

Traded in a bunch of old kindle fires and echos. Pretty seamless dropping off at while foods.

As for the colorsoft. Do not expect the colors to pop like an iPad. It's e-ink display, so they are pretty bland, as designed. Decent deal, especially if you can get the 20% off with a trade in.

I'm not thrilled about Amazon forcing customers with older Kindles to buy a newer device. Doesn't make me want to reward them for that kind of greedy move.

Seems like a great price, but can't decide if I'd pay more for Signature to get the wireless charging

This might be a dumb question, and I know that ebooks are not that big, but is 16GB enough?
