ARCTIC MX-4 is a basic, nonconductive thermal paste that works well for laptop repasting, lower end machines, and most everyday applications. It is easy to spread and clean up, and a thin application with isopropyl alcohol for cleanup is the usual approach. The low price makes it handy to keep a spare tube around for unexpected temperature spikes or aging paste. MX-7 is described as better in several areas, so MX-4 is the simpler, cheaper option when you just need solid paste on hand.

Literally just decided to replace my paste and couldn't find my old tube. I'll happily pay 3 bucks vs spending hours digging through crap to find it.

I know is over double the price, but the MX-7 has better performance in several areas while still maintaining non-conductivity. That said, we're still talking under $8.

This is an excellent product for the price!
I do think MX-7 worth it on my main PC when I'm going to leave it for a while but it is harder to work with and cleanup and wouldn't use it until I'm leaving it. Grabbing a couple of tubes of this for some work I need to do on my lower end machines and it's more than adequate (and will be perfectly fine for most people in most applications).

Does anyone have any insight on using computer heat sink paste in an old school GM HEI racing distributor for its control module? Standard paste is some generic white stuff you hope has good specs. When the module fails, it just quits. Sometimes it works until the engine gets hot. Infuriating. What's likely far more efficient at transferring heat away from the module? It's inside, on a flat pad, with white paste between the distributor body and the back of the module.

They do. I have it save in my Amazon cart, and I'm always getting notices of price drops and increases. I do this with a number of items, and buy on drops.

It can go "bad" with age. So for the price, get a new one anyway.

Last time this was posted someone suggested tpm7950, so I tried it. I must say the tpm has been amazing and I will likely do my laptop with it when it comes time. That said, I bought this just to have around.

Only reason I brought it up was b/c I bought some 2 and a half weeks ago at $2.87 each (3x max) after I missed out on the previous sale that occurred a week or two prior so I definitely didn't want to miss my opportunity when that came around again.

You want to spread the paste as thin as possible.

I've had good luck using MX-4. Never hurts to have an extra on hand pain. The 4G deal is dead but the 8G tube is still available for $5.99.
