NATIONAL BESTSELLER

The three Great Premises of Idiot America:
· Any theory is valid if it sells books, soaks up ratings, or otherwise moves units
· Anything can be true if someone says it loudly enough
· Fact is that which enough people believe. Truth is determined by how fervently they believe it

With his trademark wit and insight, veteran journalist Charles Pierce delivers a gut-wrenching, side-splitting lament about the glorification of ignorance in the United States.

Pierce asks how a country founded on intellectual curiosity has somehow deteriorated into a nation of simpletons more apt to vote for an American Idol contestant than a presidential candidate. But his thunderous denunciation is also a secret call to action, as he hopes that somehow, being intelligent will stop being a stigma, and that pinheads will once again be pitied, not celebrated. Erudite and razor-sharp, Idiot America is at once an invigorating history lesson, a cutting cultural critique, and a bullish appeal to our smarter selves.

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."
-Isaac Asimov

This was written before that awful man became our president, but it is still a great read. The author does pieces for Esquire magazine as well

Certainly an appropriate title for today's America. But the oligarchs are enjoying their lives and their slaves.

This country may last another three decades if the trajectory doesn't change.

May? Some economic theorists think that the winners and losers are already locked in. Depending which direction you're moving on the K-shaped economic model, the writing is on the wall.

Yes. May. The writings are on the wall. If the trajectory continues, the country won't last. Start with politicians. All they care about is the accumulation of wealth, regardless of the party, when they are put in office to serve the people's interest. When leaders do that, the people follow. This is why the wealth gap continues to widen every year.

There is so much misinformation in this thread.

The biggest threat to the USA is not the politicians. It is us. We keep demanding more and more from our leaders. Free medicare. More Social Security. More benefits.
Guess where we push the corrupt politicians to? The Printing press. The USD will begin its collapse beginning before Trump leaves office. You people who think things aren't affordable now? Just wait till inflation is 30-50% a year.
