Makita delivers grinding performance with the 18V LXT Brushless 4-1/2" / 5" X-LOCK Angle Grinder with AFT, Tool Only (XAG25Z). The unique feature with this angle grinder is the X-LOCK Technology, which is a quick-change system for tool-free wheel changes. A click-mount and pull release lever make changing wheels easy. It is ideal for grinding and cutting a wide range of materials including tile, concrete, pipe, conduit, and more. The XAG25Z powered by a Makita-built brushless motor for longer run time, increased power and speed, and longer tool life. The BL Brushless Motor eliminates carbon brushes, enabling the motor to run cooler and more efficiently for longer life. Active Feedback-sensing Technology (AFT) turns the motor off if rotation speed suddenly slows or the wheel is forced to a stop. It's part of Makita's expanding 18V LXT System, the world's largest cordless tool system powered by 18V lithium-ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger.

Excellent grinder that I've used for years. Unfortunately the disc rarely if ever go on sale. The fastening and release are simple with the push lock and leaver to release. No variable speed or soft start, but those features are not something I need in a paddle grinder/ cut-off tool. If you're on the Makita platform and looking for a small grinder, I definitely recommend.

You can buy an adapter to convert X-lock to standard discs Super handy if you'd like to run both.

tractor supply twisted my arm when they were dumping these for $24 early this year. so i got one, mostly because i live makita and wanted a cordless grinder.
the X-lock is ok, the availability of these wheels is not a good thing, but i don't use the tool much, so less of an issue. this thing would be flying off the shelf if the grinding wheels were same price as the regular wheels and not so scarce in the stores. but they shoot themselves in the head by playing 'hard to get', groan. it may be awhile before harbor freight can make some knock off attachments.

Grainger has occasionally had xlock wheels on sale. Haven't looked recently. There's a few import clones, but have had poor experience with one detaching itself from the center crimp ring at speed.

detaching itself? haven't seen that, but any attachment can come apart on anything at speed. safety glasses probably a good start concerning that.
did it come apart with 3rd party grinders or what ? thanks.

They were cheap x lock clone disks from amazon. They aren't listed anymore. The wheel came apart from the metal ring and took off across the backyard. I buy legit x lock branded wheels now.
