But Nord has pretty much been the standard for most people; they've been around a long time, have a well developed infrastructure and a good base set of features like split tunneling, kill switch (app based or "no internet if vpn isn't on"... they have post quantum encryption if that's even an effective thing.. standard protocols and wire... etc. if that's what you're asking. They have tor based connections, static ip option and I think even double tunneling.
Community Reviews
NordVPN Basic is being used as a low-cost year of VPN coverage, with the code redeeming on Nord's website and then adding time to an existing subscription. It is valued for streaming geo-unlocking on Google TV, broad device support, and familiar features like split tunneling, a kill switch, Tor-based connections, static IP, and double tunneling. The main cautions are occasional slowdowns or reconnect loops on phones, no port forwarding, and the need to disable auto-renewal to avoid surprise charges. A practical pick if the feature set and price fit your setup.
Common Questions (5)
Yes, but the code may need to be redeemed on Nord's website before the account will sign in on Google TV. It is being used specifically for geo-unlocking streaming, including services like BBC iPlayer and ITVX.
Yes. Auto-renew can charge the full renewal price unexpectedly, and PayPal does not stop it by itself, so it should be disabled manually after signup.
Yes, some routers can route only selected devices through the VPN. An ASUS RT-86U with VPN Director is one example, and AES CPU support can improve router VPN throughput.
No port forwarding is mentioned here, and one user specifically wished NordVPN provided it before considering the deal.
Yes. The purchase tacks onto an existing Nord subscription instead of replacing it, so it extends the remaining term.
