The NIU KQi 300P is a heavy but well built commuter scooter that stands out for ride comfort, strong acceleration, and solid braking. The hydraulic front suspension, tubeless tires, and dual disc brakes are called out as the main reasons it feels stable and smooth at around 20 mph. Real world range appears closer to 15 to 20 miles than the 30 mile claim, especially with hills, stop and start riding, or heavier riders. The weight and bulk make portability the main drawback, and the anti theft feature has a reported lockout issue that can be hard to resolve.

Common Questions (5)

  • It weighs about 45-46 lb, which makes it bulky and not very portable for carrying often. The folding handlebar helps it fit in a car, but it is still better suited to riding than frequent lifting.

  • Real-world range is commonly around 15-20 miles rather than the advertised 30 miles, with hills, stop-and-go riding, rider weight, and speed reducing it further. At 20 mph, range can drop to about two-thirds of the 10 mph claim.

  • Yes: it is described as very solid, with excellent build quality, a hydraulic front suspension, tubeless tires, and dual disc brakes. Front suspension is considered the more important comfort feature for commuting, while the rear tubeless tire helps absorb rear-wheel shock.

  • It can reach 20 mph and feels smooth at that speed, with strong acceleration for a single-motor scooter. For commuting, the tradeoff is that the heavier weight and real-world range make it better for regular rides than for portability.

  • The anti-theft feature can reportedly lock the scooter in an unusable state, and NIU support may require the original sales receipt to help recover it. That makes it risky for open-box or secondhand buyers.

I have a 100F, folding handle bar is quite nice for fitting it in the back of the car twice a year haha. Personal I'd still just pay 1/2 the price for 100P/100F if range is not a problem for you... I use it daily about 2 miles a day

I own this exact scooter. It's really heavy. It max speed is 20mph. Smooth as heck. The build quality is excellent. In my experience NIU makes the best quality scooter, but I am not sure I would recommend this one due its lack of portability. Like I said, heavy and bulky, but super solid. My daughter has 100p and it has been excellent as well.
Yes it is far too heavy for what it is as there are many other good quality scooters of other brands that work as well for the same price which are both lighter and faster and some also have greater range & full suspension.

Anyone who owns this can you talk about the battery capacity? The listed ratings are about half of the competition

Read those before buying: niu has a major issue that they refuse to address. I got this scooter as an openbox from a liquidator. I had it for less than 3 months and rode it 3x. I was playing around with the features and enabled the anti theft feature. 5 days later I went to unlock it and it wouldn't unlock. I spent over a week searching reddit and internet threads as well as asking chat h pt, perplexity etc trying to figure out how to disable the anti theft. Everyone said to unbind and start over. None of it helped or fixed the issue. I reached out to Niu themselves and in order for them to "help" you, you MUST provide the ORIGINAL sales receipt in order for them to verify you purchased it legally. So of course the liquidator didn't have the original receipt and my receipt wasn't sufficient, i now have a $400 paperweight. This is a very common issue that NIU refuses to acknowledge. Just search through reddit and you'll see its a known issue. I suppose as long as you don't engage the anti theft feature you should be fine. But i'm now out $400 with a scooter that is unusable to anyone

This is 45lbs. You are not finding a full suspension scooter in that weight range, save for maybe one of of those "flex" rear suspension that does virtually nothing.

It is a 500watt hour battery. Realistically, you should get about 15-17 miles out of it for an 180lb rider. Other companies just inflate (lie) about the range more.

I just got my scooter. Got about 20 miles on my first ride. I rode at 20mph most of the time and still had some battery left at the end. I think 20 miles is great for this price range. A lot of the advertised range numbers are for riding at 10mph the whole time, so look for real world reviews for the speed that you actually ride. 20mph will give you at best 2/3 of the 10mph range.

NIU 100F is great if you never ride more than 10 miles/day. The folding handlebar lets you take it on a bus if the battery runs out.

Segway is a little more powerful for $120 more money. Segway is 9 pounds heavier. Most people using the scooter for commuting will never use that extra power. YMMV.

For cities with unpredictable road conditions (potholes), are these generally safe? Considering scooters over bicycles for commutes for portability and avoiding sweat stains
Scooters are no more dangerous than bicycles on potholes. Bicycles generally have skinnier tires. You need to look down the road to spot and avoid the worst obstacles. If your city is not terrible, they should provide relatively safe bicycle routes.

For those of you who may be interested, NIU is considered among or THE best for build quality in this price range.

While you might be able to find something that goes a bit faster on the top end for the price point, if you want something built to stand up to regular commuting multiple days a week, this is tough to beat. Also, the acceleration is very solid for a single motor of this rating, which matters more to me as an urban commuter than top speed. I've seen people complain about the weight, but it is hard to find anything under that 40-45lb range that will actually stand up to regular use by an adult that is much lighter than that with this speed and range. So what you are really getting for this price point is:

-Granted a single, but very well built hydraulic front suspension
-Quality Tubeless tires, which is nice for avoiding flats
-Dual disc brakes that actually function as such
-A build quality that actually stands up to use.

That Segway's suspension also doesn't really compare to the NIU's in terms of ride comfort and stability. It is also operating on a 36V vs. a 48V for the NIU, so acceleration is likely to be better or at least the same on the NIU. The Segway will have better range though.

Can you give us some examples of other UL-certified 45 pound scooters with better range, speed, and handling?
