New driver in the house starting this week. figure this is a good investment regardless. Is it easy to swap between cars? I'm looking at putting the rear view mirror tether in both vehicles.
Not easy to swap out because it's held on by adhesive and not suction cups. I have this is two vehicles and got a Rove for when using rental cars and other occasions.

Just get a Tesla with sentry mode. These things suuck! You can't view any clips from your phone unless you download them from the app, you car has to be powered down as the viofo wifi Bluetooth interferes with the car, these are a huge hassle

I have a set of these and make sure to get a good card as this is a constant write situation. Also make sure to format the card every so often otherwise you'll get errors.

Can they sticky pad withstand the recent heatwave? My current dashcam started to melt and need a different dashcam ..
I sold my car after having the VIOFO A229 Pro in the front windshield for a few years and had a hell of a time trying to even get it off. In Southern California

Can't. In NC, it costs an extra ~$240 a year just to register an EV.

North Carolina: Hug a tree, but make sure you leave a tip.

I always debate if I really need a rear camera and I'm not convinced that the infrared can penetrate the rear window

Are there mirror kits that would connect these things to always on power so you didn't have to run an install kit to the fuse box?
Active rear view mirrors are not supplied with "always-on power".

I'm sure someone can find a make/model exception, since when the LCD-like active dimming is on, it can draw 450 mA, but when idle, only draws 15 mA. That's not a showstopper for battery drain.
But have to ask: what purpose to leave it on all the time?

Those that have not enabled parking mode can use switched power from the active rear-view mirror, and some USB-C regulators in the kits have the factory male-female (tapped-in) connectors, fused, plus an added 12V conveinence that adapts to RJ-11 to a radar detector, as an example.

I have an old Vuofo A129 Duo that I want to replace. I already have the car set up for hardwire and the long 8M extension cable for connecting the rear camera, but the connectors are USB mini B. Do I need to go out and buy a new fuse box hardwire kit and 8M cord for the USB C and reinstall everything thing, or can I just pop on some mini-B to C adapters?
That USB 2.0 can't carry the required bandwidth of even 1080p video, let alone a 2K video rear cam.
If you are referring to your original hardware kit for the A129 and you think it will work for the (A229?) upgrade, you might want to double check the electrical reasons why the A229 requires the HK4 Hardware kit/cable, plus it has that little module that does (low) voltage detect/cutoff (and do it differently than how the A129 does).
I'm sure that USB 2.0 cable will be useful as the pull-wire fishing lead for the 8M USB-C cable.

Not too bad. I have two A229's and one is hardwired. Otherwise, it's basically plug and play.

Is the hardwiring generic so if the future if you get another dashcam you can just plug it into the existing wiring or does all need to be rewired?

I asked Alexa Ai about these and apparently these don't use internal super-capacitors that withstand heat better than batteries. Doesn't have anything to do with sticky pads but the camera internals can melt too.
