Considering there's no upgrade path here, this is extremely bad advice. You will be playing with Switch 1 graphics on the Switch 2.

As someone who would still want their game to work when servers shut down one day, I think that the best response is not to say that this "bad advice," but that the "best version" is subjective!

To me, I would want the Switch 1 version, even though I have a Switch 2, as I do not want Game Key Cards; I want the game to be playable on the physical cart I've got. To someone who plays games once and never again, and who has a Switch 2, buying a digital-only version of a game is a perfectly fine choice.

Your Switch 2 is more likely to unusable before such a consideration ever matters but you do you. I prefer to be concerned with things that actually have an affect on my enjoyment of a game. Not bequeathing a cart on great grandchildren.

Haha, well, my Xbox 360 and Nintendo 3DS still work, but their digital storefronts sure don't! (EDIT: Not for new purchases, anyway!) Meanwhile, discs and carts would work! There's plenty of other examples, including cases where storefronts still exist, but licensing restricts listings and so on, so forth.

I've nothing wrong with a preference for digital, my friend. For folks who like it, and who don't care about having something in the future, you're right; it's definitely an option! Buy it digitally, enjoy it, and you're good. Different strokes.

For anyone who wants something to outlast or not rely on authentication with a digital shop (or other things, like Sony's recent revocation of movie rights), or who lives in and visits remote areas with no Internet access (that one's me!), it's not just about having something ten, twenty, or thirty years from now... but I do still have a fully functional Atari 2600 with cartridges, so I guess the latter is me too!

You can still download games you own even if the stores are gone, the file servers are still up. So your comparison is actually in favor of key cards maintaining longevity, lol. Not to mention those storefronts predate modern systems which are kind of platform agnostic (at least between gens).
