I hate the fact that the motherboard and PSU are proprietary! The motherboard died on my 4090 Aurora after the warranty expired and I had to pay an arm and a leg for a replacement. Also, when I wanted to upgrade the RAM, I tried to use g.skill ram. It worked great for a while until I did a BIOS update and then it wouldn't work anymore. Be warned you will have to pay through the nose for the particular RAM they specify. Yeah, I'm still bitter. The cooling on it was terrible as well. It really was a poor design overall. I will never buy an Aurora PC again.

Why not just move to a standard mother board and psu at that point?

Have not forgiven them for the hotbox mess that was my aurora r10. Thing sounded like a jet engine about to take off when it revved up, what a terrible design

I did, but I had to get a new case as well. The power supply won't work with a standard motherboard . And the Aurora case won't fit a standard motherboard or power supply. So I basically built a new computer, salvaging just the CPU, ram, the SSD, and the Video card from the Aurora. The cpu cooler was worthless, so I had to replace that as well.

It is a good deal if you live near a Micro Center and are willing to put up with proprietary parts.

The case is an oven. I rather have the 9800X3D than the Ultra but deal seems solid.

Enticing as it may look, I will never buy another alienware. Their command and control, as well as other general proprietary software, can hobble a computer. Some of their hardware depends on updates that, if they stop coming, willll stop utilizing portions of their hardware.

For instance, I have a 2080 RTX GPU computer with like 48 gigs of RAM. I could easily use it as some sort of media server or something along those lines. However, the computer lost any ability to control some of its fan functions at some point when Windows 10 stopped updating. Of course, the computer could not migrate to Windows 11 because of the security hardware. Now, when the computer turns on, It sounds like a jet taking off.

The deep integration with Alienware software has caused multiple problems for me in the past. I would suggest people pass on this until they start going back to the days where they didn't feel like choking the computer with poorly written software.

Maybe I'm just lucky and/or ignorant, but I've never updated my bios on any PC I've ever owned or built and I've never had any issues. I know it's not hard, but it's always felt like it's just inviting trouble if your PC already works.
