That amazon listing is from a 3rd party retailer and not from Amazon - that 3rd party has bad reviews (68% rating and only 19 ratings in last year). So I would not buy from there. This Target listing is directly from Acer

Sadly lost me at 350 nits. I use my laptop outside too much for that to be useful

Well this is a budget line (Acer Aspire), for a sustained 500 nits or more (in SDR not HDR), one has to spend much more on a premium line. And read the PC magazine article [pcworld.com], 350 nits is actually quite usable even outside! This laptop actually delivered 365 nits max when measured by another publication

Yes this is an integrated graphics card which is no match for a dedicated one if you are into gaming. But per the PC magazine review, it can do light gaming. This is a lightweight laptop (3.4 lbs) and is not a pure gaming laptop (much heavier)

This seems like a great laptop for the price but I'm a bit weary of Acer build quality. How is Acer these days?

The guy with bo that works at best buy did not recommend Acer. The body of this laptop is entirely made of plastic.

That is partially wrong. It is not entirely made of plastic. It has aluminum top and bottom panels and the keyboard deck is plastic. The hinge is well built per the reviews. Having plastic is not necessarily wrong as long as it serves it's function well and provides the rigidity needed.

Further the reviews, especially PC world and CNET reviews of this unit are good. And people say that Acer has become better over time. Yes this unit is not a premium level unit, that I agree but at the same time, it is very functional
