This Dell 14 is mainly a compact Windows laptop valued for its 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD, with the Core 7 150U seen as fine for normal office, school, and everyday use. The memory and storage stand out at this price, and the chip is described as similar to an i7 1355U and not weak, just a 15 watt U series part. The main concern is that the processor may feel limiting for video editing, heavy math, or other demanding work, and the 32GB configuration may not stay at the listed price. It is a practical fit if you want lots of memory in a thin and light machine.
Buyers prioritizing multitasking headroom over raw CPU speed, because 32GB RAM is hard to find at this price and the processor is still adequate for casual use.
College students doing normal coursework, because the 150U is sufficient for everyday use and 32GB RAM plus 1TB storage handle a broad school workload.
Shoppers expecting a strong processor-first machine, because the CPU is repeatedly described as below average or not great compared with the generous memory.
Students in video editing or heavy computer science work, because the 150U is better suited to casual use and a stronger CPU is recommended for those workloads.
Readers who need larger text for weak eyesight, because a bigger screen alone does not make text easier to read without the right resolution and scaling.
It can be a better fit if you need Windows compatibility, a larger screen, and more RAM/storage for school software. The key decision is whether your classes and future work require Windows apps, since software is not universal between Mac and Windows.
Yes. The Core 7 150U is described as a 15W U-series chip similar to an i7-1355U, and it should be fine for everyday browsing, Office work, and general college use. It is less suitable for video editing, heavy CS work, or demanding math/modeling tasks.
For basic use, 32GB can be more than needed, but it is valuable if you want a machine that stays useful longer or handle heavier multitasking. The main appeal of this deal is getting 32GB DDR5 and a 1TB SSD at a price that is hard to find in a non-refurbished laptop.
The listed price can drop further with cashback and card offers. One buyer reported an extra 10% cashback site offer, and another used two Amex Business Platinum cards to get $300 back in credits, cutting the effective cost sharply.
Yes. The price without the student discount is $649, and it is still considered a good deal at that level. The student price is $584.99, but the deal remains attractive even without it.
The CPU is good enough for normal/daily/office use.
In benchmarks it's basically similar to the Intel CPUs 1-2 generations ahead, those were intentionally gimped in performance to prioritize battery longevity, and this one is basically the original setup like that.
I am typing this from a 125U, even weaker than the 150U OP product has, and it's plenty good enough for casual use. If you want to do video editing, seek a stronger CPU, but for normies doing normie things, totally sufficient. Would not hesitate to buy this for a parent or college student (unless they're going into CompSci or heavy mathematical modelling or something)

Why would normies need 32gb ram though? The ram seems like overkill
FWIW the CPU is virtually identical to the i7-1355u - same cores and such. But with a slightly increased score due to iterative improvements.
These are 15W "u" devices designed for thin(ish) and light(ish) all day computing devices in the business world.
My companies standard issue laptops for all employees, short of engineers or cad users needing a dedicated GPU and hx class (55w) processor is essentially the same specs. Latitude 53x0 or 55x0 with an i7(u) and 32GB ram...
Yes for many 32GB is overkill but prior to ram-pocalypse it was an easy IT business decision to standardize the fleet at i7-32GB so that a standardized laptop could be issued to almost anyone no matter what line of work they did and the laptop would work fine. Someone dropped theirs on the way to a meeting or forgot it at home? - standard laptop replacement/loaner gets them back to work with the same specs.
Paid $585 before taxes, split the payment into two, and paid using my two Amex Business Platinum cards. I received a $150 credit back from each card, so I only paid $285, before the $15 Dell Rewards and urlhasbeenblocked cash back.
Good deal but I need a larger screen... my eye sight getting worse every year
A larger screen doesn't make text easier to read on a computer. That's not how it works. Text size is determined by resolution and also if you have windows UI scaling on.

it depends on how you use the screen, but your right that i can adjust the resolution but if the size is larger then i'll see less of the overall text/ image.
if there is a larger screen then its larger surface area for more room.
one large letter or being able to read an entire text with larger font.

The Core 7 150U CPU can handle normal daily office work smoothly.
The 32GB DDR5 configuration is hard to find at this price point.
The laptop can be a practical choice for thin-and-light business style all-day computing.
Using Amex Business Platinum credits can substantially lower the effective purchase cost.
The Core 7 150U processor may feel below average for performance expectations.
Text readability may still require proper resolution and Windows UI scaling.
Having lots of RAM may be pointless if the CPU performance is weak.
The advertised $584.99 price may not apply when selecting the 32GB RAM configuration.
