That means after spending about $300 on the phone, you'll have about a year or so to use it before there are no more security updates. That seems like a bad deal.
Worse, I haven't been able to find support for this device from the alternative Android OS community.
Apparently, the U.S. versions of this phone have an unlockable bootloader (I think that's the correct term?) and as a result it's not possible to replace Android with an alternative OS on this phone (unlike Pixels, for example).
I may still get it anyway, as I might have a use-case for it that does not require it to be used as either a phone OR an Internet-connected device. I just have to decide whether it's worth jumping through all the hoops to keep the device secure, or if I should just get a Pixel 10a now and be all set for the next 6-7 years (and possibly beyond, by switching to another OS on THAT).
UPDATE: I wound up ordering one, because my specific use-case for this phone is to run Samsung Dex and drive a pair of smartglasses with a "birdbath display" system, all offline. I figure that as long as I stay disciplined and don't connect it to the Internet or cellular networks once Samsung stops providing security updates to it, it should be reasonably secure. I'll pass data in the form of PDFs, audio/video files, and text files to it over Bluetooth, but any risk from that shouldn't be too high.
I'm wondering if you had the phone with the Samsung Exynos CPU & chipset or with the Qualcomm Snapdragon ones. If I remember correctly, that review was for the phone using Snapdragon.
