Definitely be careful, quick scan of cheap AM5 boards only allow NVME drives in their m.2 slots. AM4 lists NVME and Sata so you'd be okay there. Point is, this is a good price for cheap bulk storage (older games, pictures, videos, etc), but check compatibility before you buy.

Maybe better just to get 2.5 inch SSD because it will prob be faster as this drive is only rated for 550 Gbps, I just don't see the value in this SSD as there are plenty of other 2280 drives that would work better than this and the fact that some boards do not support 2242 size.

Do yourself a favor and do a full disk write before putting it into production. One pass of Linux bad blocks with sata erase should do it

SATA3 maxes at 600MBps but in reality it truly is a max of 550MBps. So no this as an M.2 vs 2.5" does not matter since the interface is maxed out.

I think you're asking if we think it has Cache, my guess is is probably not. But then again this is a SATA drive so it'll max output of 550MBps, so the impact of cache is pretty minimal.

This is not nvme m.2 so make sure your board is compatible. This is an m.2 SATA, so typically for older boards. And Note the shorter length of 2242. Typically 2280 is your length.

no I was refering to a 3rd party program for caching part of your system on NVME and Then putting bulk on hdd. Especially when gaming there is no need for this insanely fast r/w speeds. Like are we all youtube streamers pushing files, it's getting to me. I don't need speed I need space. I'm Sorry to blast.

There are a lot of older laptops that provide an M.2 NGFF slot to install a cellular module. It is a standard M.2 2242 slot that can accept the M.2 SATA SSD.

I had a Lenovo W540 and did this with a then, 256 GB M.2 2242 drive and 2.5" SATA SSD in the regular slot. This just provides options for storage.. if you didn't need the cellular chip.

It is unknown if a 2TB M.2 2242 SATA SSD will be recognized correctly in the W540 (or any other older system); however.

I have 2 Dells, they do not have 2242 slots, only 2280's.

I got one to work in my HP Elitebook G845 G8, using an inexpensive adapter in the cellular slot.
