So I need to start doing ultimate and I am looking for the cheapest method. I know you can earn rewards to help pay itself, but I am also seeing 10 bucks off 100 xbox gift cards, and then this which is 4.50 off per month. Is there a better method or a way to combine these methods somehow? Can anyone talk through best practices?

If we're being honest, the highest tier of PSN+ isn't even better than a tier below Ultimate. Catalogs are nowhere near comparable. While I'm not happy with Xbox Game Pass pricing, it seems someone's not being truthful here.

Assuming you don't have a current subscription. Cheapest that I know is buy EA Play 1 year (can stack up to 3) off of a discount site like Eneba (around $30 each). Redeem them. Then buy 1 month of Ultimate for Cheapest you can find and convert the EA Play to Ultimate. Redeem it to convert EA Play to Ultimate.

1 year of EA Play currently gets you about 3 months of Ultimate. Ends up being around $10 a month.

Some people also buy 3 years worth of Essential at the same time as they can be redeemed in the same way and stack with EA Play which extends Ultimate but it is a little more expensive per month. However, they're adding more time...so basically hedging their bets.

Technically pays for itself if you are going to play 3 AAA games, but yeah I get it. Needs a $10/month ad tier like Netflix and others have.

Same. Unless I see 3 AAAs that I'll actually play when my $6 a month gamepass expires (which it won't til mid-2027).
