I have a similar set, I wish they would include bigger hex bits like 12, 14, 17mm if it's truly a mechanics set.

These sets are great for most basic homeowner tasks or simple auto repair jobs, but you can build a much better set for not much more

Do you have specific recommendations on products to build out such a set?

Seems to me that a DIY set for auto repairs could focus on metric only to save some money (including modern American cars).
