If you're mainly a PC gamer, the 45" UltraGear 5K2K OLED is the better buy. The 21:9 5120×2160 ultrawide gives you a much larger workspace and a more immersive gaming experience, plus it has DisplayPort 2.1, USB-C, and Dual Mode (165 Hz at 5K2K or 330 Hz at WFHD for competitive games).

The 42" LG C6 is the better choice if you want a display for both gaming and movies/TV. It has stronger HDR processing, better overall TV features, and is great for consoles.

I also attached an image showing a size comparison of the two.

TLDR
  • Mostly PC gaming/work: 45" UltraGear 5K2K OLED
  • PC + PS5/Xbox + movies: 42" LG C6 OLED

What about for someone like me who surfs the web 75% and games 25%?

I'm torn between this and the 39" because of the more aggressive curve on the 45". Coming from a 32" + 27" I feel the 39" may feel small.Edit: Also, the new Dell is coming out soon in the US with a 39" glossy at a great price (~$1100) that many are waiting for. With my office having a lot of window light, I am still leaning towards the LG.
Same, kinda scared the 39 is too small, coming from an original Sammy g9.. but that tandem oled tech sounds sexy..

I got this exact monitor a few months back for 1400 and really don't see myself upgrading again for a long time it's excellent. I work in Excel a lot and love it for work. Also star citizen looks epic on this monitor

Hey do you know the new monitor is coming out? I'm deciding to get an OLED but waiting for the right time
It was just released in Korea this week, so hopefully soon in the US. It is supposed to be better at reading font than the LG as well. I just wish it were matte for my use case.

16:9 at the 42" and curved is the sweet spot for me. If I didnt swing for the OLED G9 I would probably still be happier on my old C6 but I really wish we could get these specs in a 42" curved OLED 16:9. 21:9 just sucks for anything NOT gaming.

my ONLY reason to not buy this is that I do a LOT of gaming on PS5, and the black bars on the sides would just be dead space. I'd love Samsung's 57" ultrawide but that would be even worse lol

you will need at least a 5080 to move 5120×2160 at 60FPS +
Statements like this are always perplexing. It of course depends entirely on the game. You can play Unreal Tournament 2004 at 5K resolution 60fps+ on a GPU from 2014 for example. Most recent games which run at 1440p 60 fps on consoles would only need a 5070 to run at 5k 60 fps on PC. But the most highly demanding games need more.

I just bought the 1440p version of this monitor and although gaming is perfectly fine, I agree with others where reading text isn't pleasant. If I returned it and bought this 5k version, would there be any drawbacks to playing games at 1440p then using it for web browsing and reading at 5k?

I am currently on a 32" LG Ultragear monitor thats dual mode 240 hz yadda yadda and I mostly like it, the only annoying thing is a few times a week it'll take a good 5 minutes to "wake up" after a few hours in standby.

It seems to be a deeper screen cleaning mode since that happens pretty much every day and just takes an extra second to wake up, but it sometimes needs to go deeper clean refresh.

The little nub to control the monitor is also in an absolutely horrible spot, like center middle but inside the "guts" a little bit and I can never remember where it is.

Personally, I like searching for that little nub...for practice muwahhhahahaha.

I got it for $1299.99 (Join LG Partner as an educator) - $130 (SAVE10 promo code) for a total of $1169.99. I chose store pickup from Best Buy. I pick up tomorrow. I almost pulled the trigger on a "Good" open box yesterday for $1136 at Best Buy, but they told me the warranty starts from when it was FIRST purchased, not when I purchased. No deal.
