It's not high end but I was excited to try on the Ja, probably my first real basketball shoe purchase in twenty years, and was surprised that I had go one whole size up. Ever since then I've been skeptical about buying shoes without being able to try them on. Running shoes and other brand basketball shoes, I'm true to size. Those Jas just seem to have a very tight toe box and I suspect that's the case of most Nike basketball shoes.
I got my kids the Under Armour Curry 3z and they seem to be okay. Probably same level as the Giannis Immortalities and Lebron Witness.
I heard the more upper end Currys have softer soles and wears out on outdoor courts faster.
I got my kid the Giannis Zoom Freak 5 a year or two ago and they weren't a fan of it and preferred the Immortalities. When I looked into it afterwards a lot of reviews said the shoe didn't offer much in terms of performance/technology. And even now with the current shoe, they say it dropped in price point/tier and is a little bit more appropriately priced for what it offers. But both the Immortalities and Freaks have always gone on sale the past several years, which is a reason and when I buy them.
If you're not really hard core into basketball you can probably get away with all arounders. But if you do need actual basketball shoes, try out several of them. As other poster mentioned, you can search Reddit or check out sites and youtube channels like Wear Testers or Dr. Zach. The New Balances are supposed to be real comfortable but I never tried them.
My personal belief/theory is to start out at the lower tiers and move up as you need/want them, unless you're a real sneakerhead or do want the benefits or looks of the higher tier shoes.

In short Kobe watched how much mobility soccer players had and how they made similar cuts that basketball players needed to do. Kareem believed that since high tops limited mobility, basketball players ankles never really developed or strengthened and lead to injuries. So when Kobe was designing the Nike Zoom 4, he was insistent that it was made in low tops.
So there are other low tops out there.
That recent Under Armour deal for the Lockdown 7 low for about $25 isn't a bad deal:

I got a pair for myself and the kids. Especially if you just shoot around, although honestly if you're just shooting around, any sneakers would do.
You missed out on the free shipping they had a week or two ago when the deal was first posted. The high tops are on sale for about $35 too.
And if you get one of each, it should get you over the $50 for free shipping. I checked the local Under Armour outlet two times in the last couple of weeks because they sometimes have better deals than online. But the one near me has higher prices than this deal. Where their Lockdown high tops were full price at about $75. And most of their other Curry shoes were like 2 for $80. I guess my feet are different sizes and I'm not sure if I should've gotten half a size up but they didn't have that size and color available anyways the fit still works for me, just rubs my outer toe a little bit and I think/hope it might loosen up.
