They will have a very similar sound though I am sure some DSP was used in the powered version to adjust the tonality, especially the bass region, & possibly improve the response around the crossover region.
Generally powered speakers are as is. I have never seen a set ever that can also be used with a different external amp. (unless you plan to gut them and do a number of mods)
