I found the first few minutes of their video very unhelpful. I'm running an Alexa environment. And as far as I can tell, it's using Alexa+. Is there really a reason to update any of my devices if they're not actively dying?

You don't have to use Alexa+, at least for the time being. I have this Echo, and a bunch of others and the choice is yours in using Alexa+ or the old Alexa, which is the one I prefer but I doubt that the old one will be around forever. Also, if you do try Alexa+, it will install on all of your Echos, you can't select which ones you want to use it on, but you can revert to the old Alexa at any time, I've done it four times now.

Personal anecdote that may help some: Alexa+ got randomly installed on a bunch of my Echoes (Dot Gen 3, Flex x2) but not Gen 1 nor Fire tablets with Show Mode nor FireTV.

In my case I was able to find it in my digital purchase history (I didn't initiate this) on my account.

For those of you unawares, this model DOESNT have a physical interact button -- so if you do frequent 'drive-bys' and touch the unit to invoke the listening command, you'll have to solely rely on "hey alexa" instead.

I don't understand, why does anyone need this over another echo that might cost $20. It's a speaker that answers your questions or announces stuff. Why pay so much more, does this have some super fancy cleat speakers or some essential functionality they other echos or echo dots do not have?, please help me understand..

It's pretty much a better, faster, more future-proof echo that will last a few more years than your old echo from say 5-10 years ago, as those are slow to respond and don't have the (I can't remember what it's called) helping others pinpoint locations for your devices. I bought a Ring car alarm/finder. It's pretty cool and works with any Echo Dots that have this feature enabled. It lets you know when your car starts, stops, if the car door is open/closed, and if someone bumps your car. It also gives the location where you park your car, which is nice if you forgot where you park your car. All this is contingent on people having Echo Dots or (Amazon devices?), which, from my last checking, is pretty much everywhere that I've been to (all with good signals).
