I don't understand, why does anyone need this over another echo that might cost $20. It's a speaker that answers your questions or announces stuff. Why pay so much more, does this have some super fancy cleat speakers or some essential functionality they other echos or echo dots do not have?, please help me understand..
Same thought here. The only reason I pulled the trigger is because these are actually cheaper right now than what Amazon usually sells them for on Prime Day.

I already have two 4th-gen Dots that I picked up years ago for $17 each, so I'll throw those up on Marketplace and hopefully recoup a good chunk of what I spent on these.

I've ordered two of these using two different accounts and cards. Fingers crossed they don't cancel the orders.

I found the first few minutes of their video very unhelpful. I'm running an Alexa environment. And as far as I can tell, it's using Alexa+. Is there really a reason to update any of my devices if they're not actively dying?
no it isn't

It's pretty much a better, faster, more future-proof echo that will last a few more years than your old echo from say 5-10 years ago, as those are slow to respond and don't have the (I can't remember what it's called) helping others pinpoint locations for your devices. I bought a Ring car alarm/finder. It's pretty cool and works with any Echo Dots that have this feature enabled. It lets you know when your car starts, stops, if the car door is open/closed, and if someone bumps your car. It also gives the location where you park your car, which is nice if you forgot where you park your car. All this is contingent on people having Echo Dots or (Amazon devices?), which, from my last checking, is pretty much everywhere that I've been to (all with good signals).

You're forgetting that these have a built-in Zigbee hub so it can control smart-home devices natively.

That's a pretty big feature that further commands the premium price in this case.

You can't ask Alexa to show the time?

For those of you unawares, this model DOESNT have a physical interact button -- so if you do frequent 'drive-bys' and touch the unit to invoke the listening command, you'll have to solely rely on "hey alexa" instead.
It's not quite the same thing, but some features can be activated by just tapping the device without hitting a button.

Would be nice if this was available in a color besides Barney Purple.

It was. White and Graphite were previously available but looks like they're sold out now. This deal has been active for a while now.

It really is hit or miss with QVC. I have been a 'member' for some time and when I order using my account sometimes it goes right through, but other times my order is canceled with a reply that the item deal can only be used for new members.

Where do you put in promo code? I go to checkout and it takes me to CC input, but I don't see a enter promo code anywhere. Not putting in my cc first.

Now that makes a big difference. So you cna just get zogbee sensors and this will be the hub, that's pretty cool. Especially if you want to throw in leak sensors, door sensors and temperature sensors.

thanks my bathroom alexa was getting raspy; time to upgrade her. stacks nicely with 4% cashback sites + 10% chase cashback.
I upgraded my Echo Dot 2 with one of these in the bathroom a few weeks ago, huge difference in sound & volume for music listening while showering
