Honestly, how much money do you think Dashpass is making in profit if you've paid $50 for $100 in groceries (even if they are inflated prices?)
Not arguing with your premise, but the reality is, these folks don't make that kind of money and do rely on the tips to make it a worthwhile sideline job. I do the $10 off $20 deal from chase Sapphire, just order $20 worth of stuff, pay $10 + fees and still tip $5-6 for a small order. If you're getting the dash pass for free, getting 4 or 5 gc's throughout the year discounted by 25%, (say $400 in GC's for $300, 1 gc per quarter) and $50 off a $100 order, to squawk about give a 10-15% tip on $50+ pre discounted order just boggles my mind. Just ask yourself if you'd want to earn less than $15-20 an hour running around delivering food/restaurant orders. Plus the wear and tear on your car has to be factored in plus the gas.
Tips are extra income. Your employer should provide enough for your lifestyle. If they don't, you either need to find another employer that pays for your lifestyle or the employer is lowballing and raking in cash that should be partially going to you. If you get some tips, those should go to retirement savings, rainy day funds or something frivolous because it's your money. Tips should not be needed to survive.

The employees of these side hustles don't have a lot of leverage, hard for them to unionize or get collective representation, plus every state has different labor laws and I doublt they are subject to minimum wage laws where the rate is $15-20 an hour.
