It's nuts what these prices have come to. But also, if you're a beginner, (A) don't expect to cut more than half the rated thickness and - at anything more than sheet metal - (B) expect to blow through 4-5 tips before you get the hang of plasma cutting. (and don't forget your safety gear)

I bought the BTC550DP too. It uses the same gun as in the 500 and 650 models, so most of the consumable kits will fit it, if they show they fit the 500 and 650 models. I bought the 40 piece kit for about $17.99, as that had more 'bang for the buck' for extra tips and such.
