I tried an 240mm MSI aio in 2021 build and it lasted like 6 months before pump died.
Swapped in an air cooler and zero issues to this day.
I'm not a boomer or gen x, but I'm still paranoid of leaks.
Especially with these cheap one and how much components cost now.
I want to try these still, but something keeps talking me out of it every time I get them in cart

I hear you on this as someone who has always been the same way. When I did my build last January I went back and forth on this for a while and ended up giving the Aqua Elite 240 V3 a shot. My PC runs 24/7 and although I don't game as much as I'd like to, it keeps my CPU cool and I haven't had any issues.

Not disagreeing with you, but I did recently make the jump without any issues 18 months later.

Although I understand the concerns for pump failures, leaks, etc... I have yet to have a single AIO fail on me. Even my first ever AIO, Corsair H50 from 2013, is still working. I'm using it to cool a 1080ti using the NZXT kraken G12 adapter. Temps to this day remain under 60 degrees at full load while gaming. Thermalright is just a new-ish brand to the US market but they have been around just as long as most of the well known name brands. The most important thing for an AIO is to remain in operation and not to sit idle for long periods of time. While an Air cooler can just sit there and be used whenever with little to no problems.

Edit: Those MSI coolers have been sitting around in warehouses unsold for long periods of time due to their high price which is why they are often included for free in those newegg deals. Avoid those kinds of "free" AIOs. These Thermalright ones sell quickly due to their lower price so they dont really sit on shelves for long periods of time.

Wow that is impressive and good to know about thermal right.

I have a thermalright peerless assassin 120 SE on my 9800x3d and she stays around under 70c in battlefield 6/intense gaming. This is an aggressive fan curve and I don't think anything in pbo settings.

Part of my brain does want that lower and to be quieter would be nice

My AIO is 13 years old and still running strong. Went to air on other system with same CPU and just couldn't get as good of temps (and the fan/HS was huge). I guess there are tradeoffs. You have to use what you are comfortable with in the end, and if leaks worry you, I get it.

You guys are kinda talking me into this. When I get the urge to upgrade something or tinker, I'll start with the living room PC ( the 2021 build that had the msi aio fatality)
