In store only.

Starts from 7/19/26.

Note: Staples removed the picture from their local ad showing the fee waived. Once live, and if available this posting will be updated.

FAQ's:
- No, you cannot use Staples GC's to purchase these.
- No, these do not count towards your spend requirements for a premier membership.
- No, these do not earn you any Staples rewards.
- No, you cannot use coupons/ rewards to purchase these GC's.
- Yes, you can split payment between multiple cards (if your cashier permits it) YMMV
- The limit of 9 may or may not be enforced depending on your store/ cashier. YMMV
- Why is this a deal? Some members have CC's that earn 5% CB at office supply stores (INK and Amex Simply Cash). Others need to meet minimum CC spend.
- What if my store doesn't accept payment with a CC? Your store likely has had issues with fraud and it is managers discretion on what payment they will accept.

(1) You cannot use a credit card to pay for your credit card bills. But some credit card companies will accept DEBIT card payments. Combined with (5) you have a credit card that pays 5% cash back on everything plus whatever the cash back the credit card offers.
(2) You cannot use a credit card to make a deposit on online gambling, But some online gambling will accept DEBIT card payments (MC works better than Visa though)
(3) Some merchants that charge credit card surcharges will not with these because these are DEBIT cards.
(4) This is by far the most powerful of all. You can cause overcharge with these if you know how to do it. I've been doing this for decades and here is the receipt from over 10 years ago: https://slickdeals.net/e/7661982-ultra-dvi-d-24-pin-dual-link-ext-male-female-25ft-far-ultra-100ft-rg58-u-male-to-male-bnc-coaxial-video-cable-far-inveo-3ft-micro-hdmi-cable-1-97-ar-shoprunner-tigerdirect?v=1&page=3&src=&prop=&attrsrc=&peid=93e63e8a-8b4b-44e8-b417-425c012bda29

I think it means spending more than the value that's on the card.

But I've accidentally done that numerous times and it doesn't work for obvious reasons.

The overcharging trick has been working forever. The last time I told someone how it works, the person broke his promise by posting it in public. You'd think people would just quietly use this trick, but there are always people who would ruin things for the rest of us. If it happens in SD, the SD effect would definitely kill this trick as Visa, MC, and AmEx would fix the loopholes in the prepaid card they sell. All I can say is you won't be able to profit a penny from overcharging the card, only the merchant will profit from it (only exception below which no longer exists).

I started a "club" with the like minded people from SD and the people who got cheated on the TigerDirect Rebate prepaid cards. Most of them just wanted revenge. We did discover new tricks and shared it among ourselves. One of the trick was overcharging the card at the gas stations to get dirt cheap gas. I was against it because the gas station lost money, not Visa/MC/AmEx. The same year all the gas stations changed the way they process prepaid cards.

Right now there are only a handful of people using this trick and the losses for the credit card companies are probably a few grand every year which is nothing for them. I took a lot of heat from other members last time. I don't think I want to take that risk again.

You can use these at Costco in-club. PIN is the last 4. The kiosk attendant will come up to you every time to mention MC is not accepted. False - MasterCard DEBIT is accepted. Tell them you are a well-trained Costco cashier.

I get the concept, but typically, they have your information or if physical store, they have your video - they don't go after you?

Why would the store go after you? They got paid. It's the Visa/MC that's eating the loss for negative balance. It's also next to impossible for the store to find information if all they have is a video of you. You could register the card with fake info. The point for registering the card is so that there is a billing address and a zip code the hackers won't be able to get correctly. So the information Visa and MC got on the card may be useless to them. I read AmEx prepaid card TOC. They could bill you for negative balance and you'd have to pay it. But every card I bought from Staples generated negative balance, and Visa/MC did nothing with the negative balance. Once the card expires, they just write it off.

I see. No clawback even to the store? The payment of the customer wasn't enough, we can only authorize $25 out of $100. But then the store would be like "well you authorized and gave us the $100". The stores I've been to either declines it or just takes whatever leftover balance. Even restaurants can't charge for almost the full amount on a debit/gift card I guess to leave space for a tip. I guess if you leave and use up the balance right away, when they try to add the tip, it'd be declined.

I must be really dumb... Are we saying, we can go to staples store and purchase MC card that's worth 200 bucks for 7.95?

No clawback to the store. Visa/MC eat the loss. It's hard to implement clawback when I have many transactions to empty the card at the same time. For example, if I buy Amazon GC to empty the card, even if they clawback Amazon, I already got the GC.

Nope. $200 gift card for $200, no additional fees for a limited time. Why buy these? Read the wiki.
