I returned the ego which I bought from Lowe's as I felt it was underpowered. I then went with a HART from Walmart and that performed much better, yet I returned it anyway after I was done with a tree which came down and the most recent storm, and Walmarts return policy was so easy.
I may pull the trigger on this, although I'm a little hesitant about greenworks.com return policy. It appears that for chainsaws they only accept new unused products within 30 days of delivery. If it has been used or filled with chain oil, they do not accept returns. So if the performance does not match the specs on the product page, you are stuck with it.

I am shocked you thought Ego was bad and HART outperformed. I have the 80V 18" greenworks and it is incredible. My guess is the 60V would be very similar in performance but I would also guess it is very similar to Ego. For $170, you should give it a shot and if you are still disappointed, stick with the $1K gas chainsaw you are comparing them too.
The chainsaw does need bigger batteries in my experience so the 5 ah it comes with should be perfect. The 2s do not really work well.

currently my makita uses two 18 volt 5ah batteries which last a long time, it came with 4 batteries and a double charger. so it keeps running for as long as i want to go.

the adjustments on this saw look better with two nuts and a slotted screw, which is more traditional saw setup and hopefully doesn't clog as much as the Makita. for 170 dollars may be worth a try; the chains on amazon are cheap too for after market. i use them on my Makita and works very well.

also i have a Stihl gas saw that i rarely use, hard to start. best to use the engineered gas so as not to clog out the fuel system. Stihl told me to keep a little gas in the fuel tank so the pump doesn't dry out.

60v and 80v are normally very similar. I just started in the 80v line almost 10 years ago so buy into it. This thing will be night and day difference compared to your tool using 18v batteries. Hand tool batteries that tried to shift into this market cannot compete. Most people complaining about weed eaters, blowers, etc get the smaller voltage and is just weak. Greenworks and Ego nailed it with performance, they compete with gas without the headache of gas.
My dad has a Stihl as well that I have maybe used one time since getting my electric. Sure it is nicer but like you said, not easiest to start. 100% better tool but also 24" I think and upwards of 1K so completely different level.

your comment on hand tools like trimmers is interesting. i use a gas weed eater, but not much because of the hassles. maybe a green works weed eater is the way to go.........goood idea. thanks.

the brush cutter is nice, that is what i have on my gas echo unit. mostly easy to use as i use the canned gas with the thing.

but yeah, the electric cordless stuff is a lot nicer. i experiment a little at a time with it. currently i use Makita and Ryobi cordless tools with almost Zero hassles.
hoping the same with Greenworks; this chainsaw deal is a fraction of what Makita XGV would charge for the same stuff. people seem happy with it too as long as the batteries are not run too low, just keep checking. another tip is to store the batteries inside as freezing weather can do them in when stored outside. thanks for the help, gonna be 'fun'
