Is this a decent unit? Looking at this compared to the Terramaster D4, and the Orico with USB 3.1:

I have a much older version of this Orico form factor with USB 3 and no hardware raid. It's great but the horizontal slots can be obnoxious, especially with 2.5" disks.Looks like the USB 3.1 model you linked to doesn't have raid. If you don't need hardware raid, I'd get that model all day and night.

I'd stay away from hardware raid of the unit in this deal vs. what you linked.
I don't trust consumer-grade hw raid.
Obligatory - raid is not back up.

I forgot to ask, what do you use your Orico for? I am wanting it for a plex server, but I hear some of these DAS solutions have weird autoshutoff issues.

I have it attached to a low-power pc I use as a plex server and backup server. I eventually upgraded the pc to one with more internal storage so the orico box doesn't get accessed nearly as much anymore, but I've been using it close to 10 years now and it's definitely one of my more satisfying purchases. I've never had any kind of auto shutdown issues. If anything I thought maybe it was too reluctant to allow drives to spin down...maybe that was an actual issue they eventually tried to address.

I think if you are using this much data a synology or qnap is safer. Costs more but safer for your data

This might be fun for misc extra hard drives , I might get this for a bunch of old 320 gig drives I have In a box
