Not sure what reviews you've read, but "horrible" is not accurate. This is a budget headphone but from a reliable company. I've owned a pair of these for almost two years now and I love it. The best aspect of this model is its 192g weight. Comfort is unmatched by anything else on the market.

Good for using on a plane to block out the engine drum and listen to music at a reasonable volume?

If you care about sound and ANC quality then spend the extra $10 or so and get the refurbished Sony ULT WEAR instead . As long as you don't mind an extra 60g in weight. But if being light weight is much more important top you than anything else then get these.

These are def. decent for an entry/average level ANC headphones. Cant imagine they went for $180 retail, but at this price its a great budget deal. Good battery, above average sound and ANC, plenty of volume, good comfort and build quality. Also fully featured Sony app with custom EQ. This is the lowest price I've ever seen for these, even as a refurb.

We have two pairs. We love sound quality and ANC is adequate, close to Bose QC15
