Nike's Vaporfly 4 is a carbon plated racing shoe built for half and full marathons, with the biggest payoff at faster paces and a very light feel. The shoe is described as especially useful for race day, speed work, and runners with efficient form, and it can even work for long walks once broken in. The main tradeoffs are that it feels awkward or less efficient at jog pace, is not suited to daily training, and the lightweight build may wear quickly. At this price, it reads as a specialized marathon shoe with limited everyday use.
Common Questions (5)
They are best used for races or select hard workouts, not as daily trainers. The carbon plate and lightweight build are aimed at speed, so the benefit is most noticeable when running fast rather than on easy or jog-paced runs.
They are aimed at half- and full-marathon runners, especially intermediate to advanced runners with faster paces, higher cadence, and a midfoot strike. The performance gains are described as most noticeable around mid-7-minute miles and faster.
Yes, they can work for long-distance walking, but they may feel awkward at first. After getting used to them, they can become very comfortable, though the carbon-plate setup is less efficient for walking than for faster running.
They are relatively short-lived compared with regular trainers because the lightweight racing build trades durability for performance. Reported use ranges from about 100-150 miles for racing to around 300 miles for workouts, with some estimates putting total life near 300 miles or less.
Nike Factory outlets can reportedly price them around $100-$120 depending on inventory. That makes the $142.48 deal more attractive if you do not have an outlet nearby or the size you want is unavailable.

I'm at about 2-3x a week…all workout days and races. May try these VF4's out. I am down to one fresh pair of VF3's after buying a few pairs on closeouts. Good for racing to 100-150mi but fine for workouts to 300mi (feels soft but not as much pop).
