The MX650 is a quiet electric dirt bike that works best as a beginner ride for kids on dirt, grass, gravel, or neighborhood streets. It has enough pull for short fun runs, with flat ground speeds around 15 to 20 mph for a 170 pound adult, and the platform has strong aftermarket support for upgrades. The main limits are size, battery life, and hill performance, since taller or heavier riders can feel cramped, the stock lead acid batteries wear out, and runtime is often only 30 to 60 minutes. It is a solid fit for younger riders, not long trips or bigger adults.
Kids learning on neighborhood streets or in the yard, because it is quiet, easy to ride, and works well for younger riders around 8 to 14.
Shoppers who want a ready-to-go adult performance bike, because making it adult-capable can require battery, controller, motor, and suspension upgrades.
$419.40 is described as a good deal by owners, though some historical purchases were much lower, including $279 clearance pricing and $50-$200 used buys. If you want new-in-box convenience, the current price is still considered reasonable; if you are patient, lower prices have appeared.
It can move a 170 lb adult on flat ground at about 15-20 mph, but it is sized more like a pit bike and can feel cramped for riders over about 5'9". Heavier riders may also bottom out the stock suspension and notice slower performance on hills or loose terrain.
The stock lead-acid setup typically lasts about 30-60 minutes and takes a while to recharge, so it is better for short yard or neighborhood rides than for going somewhere. Several owners replaced the batteries with a 36V lithium pack for better runtime.
It is best suited to kids around 8-14, with some owners saying they would not put a child under 10 on the MX650. It works well as a beginner bike for kids and has enough size and power to stay useful as they grow.
Yes. The platform has strong aftermarket support, and a lithium battery plus higher-voltage controller and motor swap can make it much more adult-capable; one heavily modified build reportedly reached 45 mph. The tradeoff is added cost and the need to address suspension too.
would it be a good size for a female old lady 5'6 150 lbs? looking for a neat little bike and saw these many years ago
per AI:
Rider Experience & Sizing
While the MX650 is aimed at ages 16 and up, it is physically a smaller, pit-bike style vehicle. Taller riders (over 5'9") often find the ergonomics a bit cramped, and adults over 150–160 lbs might notice the stock suspension bottoms out easily over harsh terrain. It performs best on dirt, grass, and gravel, offering decent acceleration for a bike in its class.
I'd spend a bit more and get something better... There have been ,any many emoto deals posted for under 1k in the past few months. I went with a Pegasus that was about the same price
On flat ground it will move a 170lb adult just fine up to around 15-20mph.
The bike is more geared towards ~60-100lb riders. If you are off road it will struggle on hills or loose material even with lighter riders.
To really make this bike great, you need to rip out the batteries and replace them with a lithium pack, replace the controller with a higher voltage controller and maybe even swap the motor. ~$350 or so and your bike is now more adult capable and 'fun' for larger riders. But then you need to start considering suspension modifications... so increase in price and you get the idea.
Realistically - If you are thinking of riding around your neighborhood or letting your 8 yr old learn, this thing nails it. If you are bigger and know how to ride and might be offroad a little? Get a cheap 125cc pit bike.
I have a modded mx350, modded mx650, 125cc pitbike, quads and larger bikes. The mx650 is currently the go to for my 7 and 10 year olds. the 125cc is better for 12+
Personally, I am a degenerate when it comes to 2 wheel machines and modifications so I am still considering this deal as a way to get spare parts.
I'm 250lbs and 6'2. This works great for my wife who's half my weight and 5'4. Definitely not made for her size but she rides it with our younger kids around the yard or streets. If you're trying to go somewhere with it then don't get it, the battery will last 30-60 minutes at most, and takes a while to charge up.
That being said, it moves me around, definitely not full speed, but still pretty quick. Until I hit an incline anyway. So it's great for some zooming fun!

The Pegasus when it was on sale for $500 was the deal of the century. I'm so glad I hopped on that.

This is a kids bike for 6+ year olds. The led acid battery doesn't last that long. You'll likely have to replace it in 6 months. Razor has been pretty good about replacing it though. I'm on my third set for my kid
Once again this is a kids toy. Don't buy it for an adult
Great beginner bike for kids, especially in HOA neighborhoods. The platform has loads of aftermarket support. I really enjoyed building it up with my son threw the years.

This is not accurate for the 650. I would not put a kid under 10 years old on the 650. We've had one for 6 years. I think I around $400 for it back then. I've replaced the batteries only once. I think three aftermarket batteries were less than $100. My kids have put 100s of hours on it. Despite many crashes, the only things that has broken is the rear wheel clutch. I didnt want to mess with replacing it, so I just purchased a replacement rear wheel. We also have two gas mini bikes, and while you have longer run times, I've spent many hours fixing and tweaking them. Honestly, the Razor 650 is one of the best things I ever bought my kids.
kids are forming gangs with these all summer long....we have a gang here terrorizing nhoods with these. They left flyers all around parks and benches donning recruitment with membership fees, paybable with QR codes and zelle.. One of them had a 3.4 GPA requirement listed on the flyer. Must be the ivy league kidz.

This is a good deal for $420. My kids have had this for about 3 years. My youngest started riding it when he was 8 and my oldest still rides it today at 14. The original lead-acid batteries died after a couple years and I bought a $150 36v lithium-ion battery pack from amazon that works much better.
