Does the service need to be active for entire year? Or could I pay $40 for first month and then forget about it for rest of year and it will still unlock?
Only need first month

Right on time.
Boost scammed me with the fake $10 a month deal. I did everything they said, even bought the $5 sim card on Amazon, and now they're charging me $25 for first month.
So I'm leaving boost and it least it was worth it to Port in the number to this deal.
Then in a year I sell this phone overseas and make more money back.

Cricket is not. But they require actual paid service for 6 months.

Text now gives you instant ph9ne number without doing anything. Can that number be used as "port in" for these promotions?
No VoIP numbers and no T-Mobile or T-Mobile MVNO numbers

Metro has always been 1 year. Ur thinking of tracfone
While the other poster may have been thinking of TracFone, Metro definitely has not always been 1 year to unlock. It used to be 6 months to unlock, which made these deals a lot more attractive.

Is there a way to get a cheap port in number? Google Voice numbers don't work.

I got "We couldn't verify your information so we canceled your order" at the end. My number is now stuck in the port process and have to make a bunch of phone calls to reverse the port.

The purchase screens look different from before, so maybe they also put in a new backend with some kind of verification system behind it.

Until recently, Metro was 6 months for unlock. My last two phones have been acquired this way.

I used to look for these deals all the time to get a virtually free phone which could be ported to my choice of carrier after the unlock period which was often 30-60 days on many MVNOs. Now most have changed the unlock policy to 12 months so this no longer works 😒.

Past two metro deals I grabbed Razr and Moto G Stylus had 8GB of ram. This A37 has 6GB, there is also an option for a a17 or tcl which has 4GB.
1) They do not unlock for 12monts right?
2) Do u have to pay monthly fee for the entire 12 months?

How do u guys go about porting a number?

Compared to S series, eg S21FE, how does these A series or A37 compare for international travels?
I was told S series have bands for international use.
