I believe unlimited data is the first year? Then 1TB a month. If you occasionally go over.... you will not be happy.

It's not fiber if it runs over coaxial cable; the fiber only goes into your neighborhood, then is split and wired into the houses from wherever the fiber node is via coaxial cable. Coaxial cable is susceptible to weather and network load issues depending on how many are using it, so it's very likely the upload will never be symmetrical and most likely incredibly slow in comparison to the download speeds. It's a hybrid approach to save them money while still trying to market as it being fiber.
I think the real factor is the modem. In my area, Xfinity is now using DOCSIS 4.0, which supports high speed (300/500/1000) Mbit/sec symmetric up/down bandwidth. Of course, you are sharing BW with your neighbors, but that happens at some point in all cases (but the thickness of the pipe varies). Older DOCSIS 3.1 has a lower upload top speed, but that only impacts me when I run backups to the cloud (which I rate limit so that backup doesn't hog all my upload BW).

I still have a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, which works fine. I would be happy to stick with it and get a discount, but it seems Xfinity wants to get everyone on the new technology (i.e., modem always included).

I imagine so. I was looking at moving and had the choice between Xfinity and Summit (pure fiber), but was leaning toward Summit despite it costing a tiny bit more than this offer just to have more of a guaranteed upload.

Open the deal page in an incognito window. After you add the deal to your cart, sign in to your xfinity account. You would still be able to check out and then once you purchased it, they will give you a second account number. When you log into your xfinity account, you will see that you have two account number. After that, you might have to log out and then relog into your xfinity app and once you relog into the app, select the second account number. After you confirm that everything is set up with your new account number, contact xfinity and tell them to cancel your first account number.
This is what I've done two years in a row now as an existing customer. Last time I did it was April earlier this year. Assuming it still works, you don't have to talk to anyone, except maybe if you need to exchange or get a new Xfinity gateway in store.

This. Nothing is free with Xfinity/Comcast. That's why I didn't accept their free phone and free Peacock offers. I still remember when they offered several digital adapters for free, then they secretly charged $5/mo per adapter.
Sucks I can't get AT&T fiber or $50/mo Sonic fiber in my area.

Logged on to the Xfinity site. Thrice their chat agents kept disconnecting when I mentioned I am unhappy with my current services.
Called the helpline and spent 53 minutes. Agent said me paying $110/month for 1.5Gigs is already a great deal since its $40 cheaper than retail (lucky me!). Compared to T-Mobile, Astound, AT&T etc and he says best he can do is $85/month for 1Gig. (others are providing this for $30-45/month, similar no contract terms).

I asked if above promotion is available and he claims no, its been expired and the website has not been updated as yet. I read out "offer valid through August 24,2026" and after putting me on hold for 15 minutes he says this offer is only valid if you subscribe through a Xfinity store...

😩
Yup I also tried via chat and got shot down. I'm now payin $139/mo for 1.5Gbps with unlimited data, after my contract expired.

As other comments said, don't bother with retention or playing games where you switch household members. Just put your exact same name and address in and say you want a new account. Open the new account and then return your old modem and cancel your old plan, they'll be able to figure it out on the back end without hassle, I did this about a year ago when they first came out with the 55/month 1 gig offer and then again when they did the 50/month 1 gig and didn't have any issues. They even transferred over my dumb loyalty rewards stuff which I don't care about and didn't even ask for.

Did you return and cancel it at the store, or did you cancel over the phone first and then return the equipment to the store?

"Xfinity internet is powered by fiber and connected to premises by coaxial cable" - Meaning slow uploads. Typical cable company deceptive marketing.

"Fiber to the premise*"

*Premise refers to our data center. Experiences might vary.

I have the $50 1GB from a deal in April. In my opinion anything beyond the $40 300GBps is not worth it - Comcast lines get saturated, speed slows anyway to around 100-300 depends on time in the day. If you do a speed test, it shows fast Smilie Smilie , but in reality when you use the service it feels slower than competitors' static home 5G...Even streaming services took some longer time to load up when started compared to my previous Verizon Home 5G. Bundled Peacock is also worthless, nothing to watch there.
So, in short - get only the $40/month, don't bother with other XFinity services.

I was unable to get retention to offer me this deal, so I set cancellation for a few days away and then my wife signed up for new service. I kept using my own modem, so when I activated it on her account, they automatically shut down the old. A ridiculous charade, but that's the game they've created.
My understanding was that bandwidth is unlimited for the full 5 years, but I'll recheck that now. We actually use Peacock a little bit, though its Black Friday deals have been cheap enough for a few years that it's not a meaningful Comcast benefit. I tried to use their Mobile promo year, but they're still really crappy about supported devices. Signed up, got a fancy new flagship of a brand they sell themselves, but they would not support it.
I tell people often that technically the service is pretty good. I get advertised bandwidth, disruptions on their end are infrequent or brief. (Power outages are more often a blocker). But their everything about their billing and customer service is an absolute clusterf**k and I can't wait for a functionally competitive alternative.

I signed up for the second account online and then called and cancelled the first. I only went in store to drop off my old modem, for which they gave me a receipt and said have a nice day

Cancel current plan and open new account under another household member. Been doing it this way for over a decade. Last I knew they consider each individual a new account holder after 6 months of not being a current customer.
This. I did this and switched the account to my wife's name few months ago. Quite easy, you don't need to talk to anyone at Xfinity.

I did this too and they gave me hell about the cancellation. Dealt with them for over 2 months afterwards as each representative assured me the account was canceled but turned out it wasn't.
