Cancel current plan and open new account under another household member. Been doing it this way for over a decade. Last I knew they consider each individual a new account holder after 6 months of not being a current customer.

It's not fiber if it runs over coaxial cable; the fiber only goes into your neighborhood, then is split and wired into the houses from wherever the fiber node is via coaxial cable. Coaxial cable is susceptible to weather and network load issues depending on how many are using it, so it's very likely the upload will never be symmetrical and most likely incredibly slow in comparison to the download speeds. It's a hybrid approach to save them money while still trying to market as it being fiber.

My promotional price was coming to an end in June and I called XFinity. They initially offered to renew my promotion at $70 (same as my previous price) for another 2 years. I declined, and stated that AT&T fiber is running a promotion for $55 for 1 year gig speed fiber.. I would rather switch to fiber for lower monthly price than stay on cable for the higher price. The rep immediately offered me the $50 5-year price lock guarantee, and I took it. There is no contract, so I can cancel any time; but they cannot raise my price for another 5 years.. so it felt like a great deal to me.

Recently switched from Xfinity's 450 Mbps plan to Verizon Fios 300 Mbps, and one thing immediately stood out—the symmetrical upload speeds. It's a noticeable improvement if you upload files, back up photos, or use video calls regularly.
I never really had any issues with Xfinity, but at $30/month for Verizon Fios, I'm more than happy with the switch. Even better, our community finally has a choice instead of being stuck with a monopoly. Competition is a win for everyone. Verizon was also courteous enough to throw in additional extender for free, which is free only at the 1gb speed tier.

I'm going to stay on Xfinity Now for the time being. Really happy with it thus far for the price. Though I dread the day I will eventually have a problem with it and have nonexistent support.

Did this a couple months ago on the previous deal, as others said just switch between household members. I did it in person at a store, took ~10min and there was no downtime whatsoever on the Internet which was initially a concern of mine. They basically activate the "new" line right away but only start charging for it when I connected the new modem they gave me and did the activation with the app. No activation or set up charges or anything. Brought the old equipment with me at the same time (under different household members name) and handed it in right after opening the new account, no issues. It seems to me especially in the store that the workers want to help you open new accounts (a quota maybe?) so they don't mind too much doing this. The old account they prorated the balance due and I paid it after a week or so with a credit card online.

Was able to get the new rate as an existing customer. I did just move to the 1 gig for 1 year tier a few weeks ago after an old promo expired. So maybe that gave them some flexibility.

As a current customer I was refused the deal multiple times. Finally AT&T came by and set up fiber so I explained to the Xfinity agent that I currently had both setup so I have to cancel Xfinity if they could not offer the deal. Xfinity finally caved in and gave me the deal. For the same price I trust Xfinity a little more, the AT&T rep was a little shady and never got back to me after I signed up.

I don't think xfinity offer any symmetrical speeds. I am on microwave internet (1G/1G), and xfinity just became available in my street. I was going to switch for better durability during weather events, but the upload performance is atrocious. I work on large video files for my job so that is a requirement for me.
