Cancel current plan and open new account under another household member. Been doing it this way for over a decade. Last I knew they consider each individual a new account holder after 6 months of not being a current customer.

It's not fiber if it runs over coaxial cable; the fiber only goes into your neighborhood, then is split and wired into the houses from wherever the fiber node is via coaxial cable. Coaxial cable is susceptible to weather and network load issues depending on how many are using it, so it's very likely the upload will never be symmetrical and most likely incredibly slow in comparison to the download speeds. It's a hybrid approach to save them money while still trying to market as it being fiber.

I called them and canceled service, then signed up again with the same person under a different email address, just to keep the accounts seperate. Moving Mobile accounts over to complete the process. Will lose platinum status, but oh well. Internet bill went up to $115 from $65 last month, so it's worth it I guess.
I could add another Mobile line for Free since I was now a new customer, but I don't have any other lines to add.
All I really got was a new account number, and then had to move services over to that account.
No big deal really but it took a few minutes on the phone with them.

SF Bay Area region. Been a platinum member since 2020, signed up with additional account. Will need to set up new modem/router xFi and once that's connected. Will be returning old setup and closing original account. $50/mo for 5 years vs $130/mo for now until they decide to bump it up again. Can we still request a modem (for free of charge) if we are currently using our own modem? Currently using a modem/router combo unit that is limited to max of 600MBPS only.

How were you able to switch your plan rate? Whichever method you were able to change your rate to that, should have mentioned if you need to replace equipment.

My friend was paying 80/month on the 300mbps plan. I chatted with xfinity via the app, they offered lowering it to 40/month with price lock for a year, same speed and setup. As always YMMV but for my friend they wouldn't give the 5 year price lock. But conversely he didn't have to go through the hassle of having service turned off, switched over etc…

If your existing modem is working fine with whatever new speeds you have, then you can just return the new modem to an Xfinity store. Or you can swap and activate the new modem yourself via the Xfinity app and return your old one.

Yes, and from what I understand, these plans come with a modem/gateway, so if anything you'd have to return the provided modem if you choose not to use it. However, I'd use their modem if it's free because for the higher speed tiers, unless you have a very specific compatible personal modem, you probably won't get the full speeds.

they gave me 60$ for 500 Mbps valid for 5 years as existing customer. lazy to cancel and get new as i have mobile lines with them. so settled.

Thanks, followed the outline in this post yesterday set up a second Xfinity account. They delivered via carrier the new XB10 Gateway at 10:30 pm. 29 year Comcast customer was paying $98 for 600 mbs using my own equipment. Could not be happier, thanks again!
