Forwarning: If you want a relaxing vacation, this isn't the place for you. There are kids everywhere running rampant. It's very difficult to get restaurant reservations so you have to resort to the buffet. Service was iffy but most staff were great. I'd give the food a 3 out of 10. Pool is very nice. Long wait time for drinks when it's busy. Stayed earlier this year and would not go back. The Riviera Maya area is the place to be with better everything, especially the beaches. Want relaxation without constant screaming and running kids? Then choose an adults only resort. Why anyone would take an infant and toddlers on this type of vacation is beyond me, and it's loaded with them. Riu Palace resorts are a best buy and high quality. We usually go to the Cancun area twice a year and Puerto Vallarta (Riviera Nayarit area) at least once per year.

My family of four just returned from a 4-day visit to this resort and had an amazing time. It's a FAMILY resort but they also have adults-only areas including a pool and two restaurants. We had zero issues booking reservations for any of the restaurants - they actually remind you to book your reservations during check-in. Even so, changing reservations wasn't an issue at all. The resort is brand new so it was pristine. It also wasn't crowded at all when we went. The families we saw there were well-behaved and apologetic when their kids were overly excited. Why you would choose to go to a family-oriented resort and complain about kids is beyond me.

Just a heads up - at least for the dates I searched, it was less-expensive on Costco Travel vs the non-Luxplus rate, even considering the resort credit because you get $100+ Costco credit and free airport transfers on top.

What I get out of this is that perhaps too many kids (comparison wise) as opposed to a relaxing environment with kids.

For those that don't understand, think LA (or any traffic, just that LA is brutal) during rush hour as opposed to some traffic 1hr before rush hour. Both bad, just first is way worse.

Back to my point, thank you for the heads up I appreciate it

After air fare, transfers, taxes, drinks.. might be better to just go on a cruise. The "child" price is only up to 11, after that I assume it's full price adult which will make it even more expensive.

I have friends that don't understand why you would bring children to Disneyland too, so I'm familiar with the viewpoint. On that note, I have been to many of these throughout the Riviera Maya. And I can't say I ever experienced screaming kids. Anyway they are great and convenient for the entire family. Tip: Reserve your restaurant visits as soon as you check in. The longer you stay, the higher the chances of getting reservations. I usually stay for over a week, so its not an issue. But like some mentioned, if you loathe children, you should be looking for "ADULTS ONLY" resorts. They typically cost more, but that's what you are paying for.

Did 5 nights at this resort with my wife and 2 children (ages 5 and 2) back in December. We loved it, and I'd love to go back with just my wife. It's a beautiful resort. Do your own research on tripadvisor, costco reviews, etc. to see if it's a good fit for your family. Sargassum (the big seaweed problem in the area) is seasonal, and is worst during March - November. But the Playa Mujeres area where this resort is located is less impacted than Cancun Hotel Zone, and even lesser than the Playa Del Carmen / Mayan Riviera areas. Those get hit hard. Hope this helps.
