Yeah, I remember that you told me about that study you were in. It figures you got the friggin placebo. Do you still get migraines? If so, not sure if you knew or not but the FDA finally approved Botox for treatment of migraines so the insurance companies are paying. When I first went to the pain clinic, it was not FDA approved. The doctor sent a letter to them with my history of meds and lack of relief. They approved payment probably because they saw how many meds they had paid for, scans, and Neuro appts. So, if you are still suffering, there is a very good chance of insurance covering it now.

Of course my Neuro didn't agree with that treatment - she was very big on a daily med (Topamax) plus meds for onset. I tried Topamax an could not tolerate it. I felt like I was crawling out of my skin. Then I went from Imitrex to Toradol to Maxalt to self injectable Imitrex....They all made me feel like I had something heavy on my chest and my arms would be so weak. The injectable would knock me right to the ground. I would have to lay down right after and that stuff made my upper body almost imobile. But of course being in that kind of pain I didn't care. Now with these meds the migraines still lasted 4 days. Always 4 days. The meds only took the edge off. The scary part is I was taking this with multiple daily meds for my neuropathy amongst a pleathora of other issues. They could be taken together but there was some risks such as a stroke if it was too much. I had about 5 days in between each migraine.
My Dad found an article about this Dr who was using the Botox treatment at a pain clinic. I got set up right away and was very fortunate that my insurance approved payment.

My new Neuro thinks that it is a great treatment and agrees that it is so much better than the other drugs which don't do the job, and put me at more risk with my other meds. He explained that the migraines are still happening, I just don't get the pain because the scalp muscles can not go into spasm. There is one or two breakthroughs that I get every 3months - they are very mild pain wise and I take one Frova and the pain is gone. They explained when I feel one now, it is a very intense migraine.

When I get the treatment she injects the muscles all around my scalp and the muscles right under my hairline on my forehead. She doesn't do my forehead or between my eyebrows. I wish she did because I have to pay for that treatment myself Evillaugh I have to coordinate my appointments with her and my PS. Both within 7 days so I don't build up an immunity. So I will be seeing him on Monday. So far so good.

My daughter used to believe the same thing about the eyes on the back of my head. I would see her do something and then mention it a few minutes later and she would say "How did you know that???" I told her all mommys have eyes on the back of their head. I had her convinced for a while.

OMG the clamp on the cervix story is crazy!!! I'm surprised you didn't lay him outlaugh out loud I mean that is just BS to make you stay longer than you had to in such an uncomfortable position. It gave me goosebumps reading that. What a jerk!
I have talked to my Neuro about Botox, I have an HMO for Insurance, and so far they are saying they will not cover this, even though it has been FDA approved for migraines. They want me to pay for it upfront; then review my paper trail before they will agree to pay for it. It's not like I don't have 30 plus years of a paper trail Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) My Neuro is furious about this, but our hands are tied, we are afraid the HMO will review everything and deny the payment, and it's not a cheap procedure as you are well aware of. It probably would work for me, my Neuro has been saying this for years; but I absolutely refuse to put up the money, then be denied the payment after the fact, with the way I get screwed around with. Yes, I'm on Topamax and as anyone knows who is on this med, it plays havoc with you when you get titrated up in dosage, until you become a freaking idiot; that you speak backwards, you can't remember shit, and you feel as though you have lost your ability to do normal things on a daily basis. Then they titrate you back down to a dosage that really doesn't do much; and then there is the issue of weight loss for someone like me, who really cannot afford the weight loss that Topamax is famous for. It's great for those who need to loose weight; but when you are already underweight, it's a skeery medication to be on, and have them titrate you up further in the beginning, then back again. I'm also on Zomig, having been on so many other Triptans as well, as well as Beta Blockers and the like, something like 70 plus medications throughout the years. Although with one kidney and tumors all over it; they are very, very limited as to how they are able to treat me, with everything filtering thru the one singular kidney; and the damage they can do to it. If ONLY we could get the HMO to approve Botox, it would be wonderful Girly I did self injections with something called DHEA, where you actually had to draw the serum from a little tube, into the syringe, knock the syringe to make sure there were not bubbles in it, and then wipe your thigh with an alcohol swap, before injecting yourself, when a migraine was coming on. Now think about this for a moment, and I went for classes to learn how to do all of this. You have a major farking migraine coming on, you have chronic intractable migraines daily; and they want you to do all of that when your head begins to pound away OMG I tried it for a while, and I had to go all the way downtown to get refills for this med, as no pharmacy anywhere near me carried this, only a main hospital downtown, where the Headache Clinic was carried it; had to pay $14 to park, just to go to their Pharmacy to pick this up EEK! Finally I gave up on it, as by the time I got out the syringe, knocked off the tiny tip of the tube, put the syringe into it, drew it up into the syringe, pushed on the syringe, knocked on it to get the bubbles out, then you have to swipe with alcohol, then inject; by this time, your head is pounding and you barely can inject yourself EEK! Plus, I had to carry a letter with me that said I was allowed by "law" to have syringe's on me at all times as this was in a kit format, in case I was stopped by the police for any reason, can you believe that Mad

Yeah, with the metal clamp, my doctor and I had a few choice words after that second procedure Ranting And doctor's wonder why I question everything any more Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I totally agree. Why should you pay up front when you already pay for insurance. Nono2 I would call them myself, explain the situation AGAIN and tell them that you need to have this treatment because of the other meds affecting other health issues. Tell them to take a look at the history of Dr appts, and scripts and maybe that would give them a clue? Insurance companies make me sick when it comes to things like this. Actually, when I get my next treatment in 3 months, the Dr have to get another approval for the next 4 treatments. Seriously Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) Sure, because the migraines may stop but I will still want my scalp shot up all over....because you know....then it would be cosmetic and I would be doing it to be all young and wrinkle free under my hair. Yeah that's it.
No, it's not cheap. It's $1700.00 each time. I pay a $15.00 Co-Pay because it's a specialist. I can not complain on that aspect.

Rofl2 at the letter!!! I hope you keep in next to your CCP Roll What a joke.

I imagine he is as thrilled as we are then; it's a lot of prep work that goes into this EEK!
I've had so many PM's asking me, is it in the water yet and I keep saying you have
no idea the amount of work that goes into getting it ready to put it in the water.
Especially if you have to do major maintenance as we did this year, tearing the motor
leg apart, and replacing all of the parts inside, as regular maintenance to this.

But it's all in the ownership, and keeping it maintained, so that we are able to safely
navigate the waterways and have no worries after it is launched. Can't wait, but am not
looking forward to $4.72 per gallon on the water ways EEK! EEK! Will fill her up on land
before we launch her, but still at $3.84, not cheap Nono That's a minimum of $236 on the water ways, if we are empty OMG
So it looks like we are going to be throttling down when boating this year, to conserve on gas Sadwalk
But still take that trip, weather permitting down to the Chesapeake; last year we got hit with two storms in a row;
and couldn't get down there while on our vacation timeMad

We do intend on having fun - first Dock Party is Memorial Day Yahoo! and must make reservations for 4th of July in Philly to dock down there for the Fireworks again nod

It's a little dreary looking outside, but we have the boat all hooked up, the canvas and the bimini tops have been loaded into the truck and the other car, the boat has just been taken to be filled with gas, and soon we will be on our way to launch it Yahoo! It is not raining out at this time, and hopefully Pray when we get to where they launch it for us, it won't be Rain out Pray We'll probably be down the Marina the whole day getting things set up, as this will be an entire day, putting up the bimini tops, attaching all the other canvas, then working on the inside, cleaning the upholstery and doing the deck work inside. But we are excited Woot Woot It's finally time Whee Whee
