The 4TB 990 EVO Plus stands out as a very fast, cool running NVMe for big storage upgrades, gaming, and everyday use. It is described as a strong fit for thin laptops and external enclosures, and HMB based performance is said to be close to DRAM drives for normal workloads while using less power and heat. The main caveat is that it lacks onboard DRAM, so sustained writes and PS5 use may not be ideal. The deal price also drew attention because 4TB SSD pricing has been far higher lately, making this feel like a rare capacity play.

FWIW this spent most of 2025 in the $200s before jumping in March 2026 to $550-600 and hovering there for the last 5 months, according to CCC.
best i seen was $150 around 2024-2025, RIP.

Bought one, dont think will come down to this price for another year due to AI.
Bought one as well. We'll be lucky if prices go down at all in a year. Very little new capacity is coming online next year. Not enough to meet demand at least.

It's comical to consider this a deal when it was normally $200 not even a year ago.

Good price in current market. Much better than those Chinese brands. That said, these used to be close to 200 pre-AI. I usually went for the Pro drives instead for $20more.

4tb/8tb will be first to fall. So if you can wait until mid-2027, these prices will be normal by then. Need them sooner? Buy what you can get.
I grabbed one now even though I don't need it because I have ZERO confidence prices will be reasonable at any point next year. I'd be less surprised if prices went up vs if they went down.

One other option is to price match at Best buy. Theirs is like $700, but they should match it.

I'm still surprised Amazon is showing stock on this

I'd grab one but I have 4-5 similar drives in a drawer that I bought a few years back. No reason to overspend, these will drop eventually
Yeah tempting to overspend but hard to swallow at $300+ a pop, and when it was $200 last year…Curious to see the market for solid states in a year time!

Really don't have the budget for this but, dam, can't pass this up.

Running 2 Kingston 1tb nVme drives in a raid 0 to get fast speeds and even with that, I am not getting speeds like this drive changes.

I am using that drive for games..... this will replace that.
