The 4TB 990 EVO Plus stands out as a very fast, cool running NVMe for big storage upgrades, gaming, and everyday use. It is described as a strong fit for thin laptops and external enclosures, and HMB based performance is said to be close to DRAM drives for normal workloads while using less power and heat. The main caveat is that it lacks onboard DRAM, so sustained writes and PS5 use may not be ideal. The deal price also drew attention because 4TB SSD pricing has been far higher lately, making this feel like a rare capacity play.

Was definitely one of those buy now, consider a return later deals. Snagged it in a daze on my morning commute. Still can't believe this is real.

It wiped out over 2T in valuation over 40 days. The bubble was created by retail investors jumping on the AI bandwagon, mostly through leveraged ETF's which compounded the correction once stocks stared dropping and margin calls started.

I am very aware of the crash, I am just saying it doesn't signal change in AI demand.

Is stay away from the evo line. All the failures I have ever seen were the evo ones. They seem to fail right at end of warranty

Pretty sure most of those contracts don't require up front money. If they walk away, memory companies can do what? That's the whole rub. AI companies are just being used by the memory cartels to extort ridiculous terms from everyone else. AI companies get all the blame, but this is a deliberate scheme from the cartel. They deliberately have two sets of rules to create artificial demand and wreck the pricing.
It doesn't have to be upfront money. It is a commitment to buy and they will be taken to court and lose if they bail out. I don't see Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Nvidia, google, , etc going out of business any time soon, so they would need to honor the commitment for the chips they ordered.
