FWIW this spent most of 2025 in the $200s before jumping in March 2026 to $550-600 and hovering there for the last 5 months, according to CCC.

Some people with prime reporting they got their package already and it was mislabeled makeup. Record your openings for your sake if you ordered.

Had to pull the trigger. Never spent this much on an SSD in my life, but gotta stock up when you can. Back to School has this tax free in Florida, too.

Community Reviews

The 4TB 990 EVO Plus stands out as a very fast, cool running NVMe for big storage upgrades, gaming, and everyday use. It is described as a strong fit for thin laptops and external enclosures, and HMB based performance is said to be close to DRAM drives for normal workloads while using less power and heat. The main caveat is that it lacks onboard DRAM, so sustained writes and PS5 use may not be ideal. The deal price also drew attention because 4TB SSD pricing has been far higher lately, making this feel like a rare capacity play.

Could be worse. You could now be the proud owner of $300 makeup, arguing with amazon about a restocking fee.

Please keep us posted, it's too late for me to cancel... hope it won't be a painful return if it does end up being a make up kit
Looks like some people are getting the SSDs based on reddit thread, keeping fingers crossed

Mine arrived. Looks good and linux tools seem to indicate it's a new genuine samsung 990 evo plus 4tb. Not fake makeup thing like on reddit.

There will be no argument. There will be a refund on the full amount or a CC charge back for the item 'not as described'. With a few steps.... it's easy.

Less than two years ago you could regularly get a deal on a 990 Pro 4TB for $200-250, sometimes less with student discounts.

Reddit posting that orders were of a box of makeup with a mislabeled sticker on it... be sure to record yourself opening the box
Seeing a lot more legit SSD deliveries which is reassuring, hopefully those were isolated incidents. Worth the gamble for sure
