Whataburger still gets credit for its cheeseburgers and for easy app ordering that can keep food hot until pickup. The deal angle also stands out because coupons and survey redemptions are where the value seems to be now, especially for repeat free burger offers. The main knocks are declining quality and consistency, with some locations described as hit or miss, buns that taste off, and prices that feel less worthwhile after ownership changes. It reads like a chain that can still hit when the location is right, but the value depends heavily on the deal and the store.
Late-night drive-thru burger seekers who want a hot pickup, because app orders can stay under a heat lamp and still arrive hot.
Fans of a classic fast-food cheeseburger who value a strong burger over consistency, because the cheeseburgers can be excellent.
Deal hunters chasing a free burger with a meal purchase, because the survey receipt can keep generating another free burger offer.
People who only want a standout chain burger on special promotions, because the BOGO burger and chicken sandwich are the only offers worth going out for.
Value-focused diners who want a dependable everyday stop, because the food can feel overpriced and the quality has declined.
Shoppers expecting reliable quality from every visit, because recent orders can be hit or miss and some locations have inconsistent management.
Families wanting a smooth dine-in or delivery meal during a promotion, because long waits, wrong orders, and abandoned deliveries can turn deal days chaotic.
People with sensitive stomachs, because the buns can make them feel sick after a recipe change.

If you're lucky enough to be near one with good local management, it can still be a top tier fast food burger. But that's a big "if." Around me they just move the one really good manager every few months to the current worst location so none ever quite fails completely, but none ever stays good once she moves again, either.
