i got one from the previous $40 deal. As a data point I drained it from 100 to 0 with a power meter and got 11000mah at 5v which is about 14500mah at 3.7v

I just disassembled mine... The case is 100% plastic, just like every power bank and laptop battery I've ever owned, and I've disassembled a fair number of them. The eight visible T5 screws are just for show, screwed into the black end panels, and nothing more. The end panels are glued and held with friction tabs, not screws. You will break off the plastic tabs if you remove the black plates. The silver plastic back is glued down. The silver plastic is painted, black plastic underneath.

I have one and for 40 it's solid. I Think the actual mah is about 15to20. I can definitely charge a iPad pro 1 complete time with a little to spare. A switch 2 gets about a charge plus. My steam deck smokes this maybe 75% charge. My Asus laptop which is a 100watt USBC drains this in about 30min. Honestly for the price it's worth it and it's beautiful.

I got one of these for $5 more I think and it's a beast it can even charge my legion laptop if helps someone wondering about, can charge at quick speed my legion go and my phone and gives real time info on the display

I didn't do a discharge test yet, but I did a charge test, and my external USB power tester showed about 70Wh went in (It wasn't from 0%)

These are decent. Used it strapped to my tripod, connected to a Nikon doing a 7 hour time-lapse. then charged a phone from 20% to 100% then charged two Camera batteries. still had 15% left.

Heat is waste energy. Technically the mah is correct in most batteries. The battery will hold the amount listed by the manufacturer.

If unused the mah is correct. If used a large amount of energy is wasted on heat. So what you are getting is actually energy + wasted heat energy = claimed total amount of store energy.

One reviewer said it's made of cheap plastic. Is that true at all? I'm worried about dropping a lithium battery and it being breached.

It's built well and definitely not cheap plastic. I dropped it from waist height and it only dinged the paints on some of the edges.
