this company pays for the removal of bad reviews, so just keep that in mind when you're making your decision.
customer service is also not great. one warranty claim, even if they give you a bad product from the beginning. They counted a replacement from Amazon as the claim, for that broken unit, within the return period.

This dual motor standing desk frame is mainly a DIY base for pairing with an IKEA countertop, butcher block, or other custom top. It fits tops from about 23 inches to 31 inches deep, and setups around 70 to 74 inches wide have been reported to work well. Assembly and height adjustment are described as straightforward, with smooth lifting and solid support for multiple monitors and heavier tops. The main caution is wobble, which appears more noticeable at full height and can improve with leveling and foot adjustment. A clean fit for custom desk builds if stability needs are modest.
The desk frame can feel stable at the bottom height position after leveling and foot adjustment.
The frame can lift and support a heavy setup when paired with a solid countertop.
The frame can work well with butcher-block tops after sanding and sealing all sides.
The frame can accommodate smaller tabletops down to about 23 inches.
The setup can run smoothly with an IKEA KARLBY top and an easy installation process.
The frame can feel noticeably wobbly at the top height position during use.
The listing's dual-motor and 225-lb capacity claims may be overstated compared with other electric desk options.
The frame can produce visible vibration when a glass of water is placed on top.
The frame's particle-board construction may be a concern for some DIY tabletop choices.

if you don't want to stain it, then it's pretty trivial. Lay the block down, put the base on it upside down, that lets you mark your pattern for where you need to screw into. Probably want to use a threaded insert instead of screwing directly into the wood itself. So just need to mark where your holes go, drill holes to the correct depth and size, screw in the inserts, then screw it together. Main thing is not to drill too deep and shoot through.
If you do want to stain it, then that's beyond my experience, I don't like painting or staining lol.
Nice, I have my standing desks all on casters, so there is definitely some wobble, but that is a trade off I'm okay with for the mobility. My use case is weird though.
So many videos on staining. I basically did this. I am by no means a wood worker or painter (I hate painting) and it turned out good.

It's REALLY hard for anyone to answer that question, even if they know a lot about them without knowing what your space/needs are like. Standing desks come in a WIDE range of options from basic to "has drawers, risers for monitors etc etc"
Hell they even have L shaped adjustable desks.
