Long story short, this amp drives the problem speakers (including in multiple rooms simultaneously, if desired) beautifully. On a low volume level, this thing has no issues surpassing what the supposedly high power amp in the receiver could pull off. So I'm pretty happy with it.
Now, for anyone considering buying it:
1) You need an input that has its own volume control. You can't just use "line out" from something, because that will be at "line level" volume. You need some way to adjust that volume. In my case, I just use the headphone jack from the receiver and pipe it around back to the amp 🤣 ... something like:

2) You need a way to turn the amp on and off automatically. Fortunately, this amp has a 12v trigger. Not all amp triggers work the same, but I got super lucky because my receiver has a USB power output that only comes on when the receiver is on, and I had a USB to 12v barrel plug adapter, and a barrel plug to 2.5mm TRS jack, and that combo meant that my receiver will turn on and off the amp, no soldering required! (The last amp I set up an auto trigger for required a relay, some soldering, custom plugs, and integration between Harmony remotes and Samsung SmartThings! So I was SUPER pleased with this one!) Something like:

I was so happy to be able to get this working without an in-depth soldering + wiring + programming solution. The sound is great. The build looks quite reasonable, even though Monoprice is the Walmart of electronics.

For what it's worth, the regular, everyday price on these is $300, not $400. Regardless, it's a great power amp at $200.
If you're looking to build a modular set up with multiple components, this is great. However, if you'd like something simpler with fewer pieces to buy and plug in, look for a receiver or integrated amplifier, which will have the preamp section built-in.
