The Moto G Power 5G 2024 stands out as a solid budget backup phone with a year of Tracfone service, smooth everyday scrolling, decent build quality, and a screen that works well for navigation. The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage are the main draw, with RAM Boost adding extra headroom and storage expandable if needed. It also supports eSIM and appears compatible with T Mobile once unlocked. The main cautions are Tracfone activation and unlock uncertainty, plus confusing listings around RAM, storage, and the annual plan, which is 1500 minutes, 1500 texts, and 1.5GB total for the year.

Common Questions (5)

  • The phone is listed with 8GB RAM in some places, and the device settings can show 8GB plus RAM Boost. The base physical memory may still be 4GB on some listings, with RAM Boost using internal storage as virtual memory.

  • Yes, once unlocked it can be used on T-Mobile. The phone is also reported to support T-Mobile-compatible bands, and one unlocked unit connected on Band 66 and made calls.

  • Not always. The price can jump if the selected store goes out of stock, and changing the store or pickup location can restore the lower price.

  • No. The included minutes, texts, and data are the total allotment for the full year, not a monthly refresh. For this deal, that means the 1500/1500/1.5 plan is meant to last across the entire service year.

  • Yes, it is eSIM-capable. The practical caveat is that using a second carrier eSIM alongside the included physical Tracfone SIM may require the phone to be unlocked first.

It is a years long problem with Walmart. Maybe try in-store pickup and check the receipt to verify it's been scanned properly. This is one of the reasons that I've avoided buying phones from Walmart. Had a similar issue with a Target phone order. Luckily, I exchanged it for an in-store phone and verified it was scanned. But I had to wait until it returned to stock.

Avoid Ram Boost, Google it and read up on why. In any case, if they list 4+4 GBs, it's a 4GB phone.
Settings / About phone / RAM shows "8GB+2GB(RAM boost)"

I know, I have 3.
My reply was to user u/scrooged who may or may not have bought the Moto G; doesn't seem to know.

I see $79.88. I tried changing to a store/zip code with $49.88 but checkout on shipping kick it back to the higher price. Frown

I couldn't get the $49.98 price, which only showed before I got to my signed-in cart. I still ordered it for $79.98+tax because I'm currently paying $5/mo+tax ($82.56 a year) for my kid to be on a $5 Tello barebones plan on a battery depleted phone that's from 2019. Still a good deal. After a year of service I'll unlock it and switch to a Red Pocket annual plan.

Looks like the plan is preloaded on the device, not a separate activation card. Once activated in my account, anyone know if the plan can be transferred to my existing Tracfone? My current phone is newer and I'm really just looking for a plan extension for my existing phone. Been a while since I've seen an 'unlimited' plan deal vs the 1500/1500/1.5 plans and my current plan is up in Sept.

You realize this isn't an unlimited plan either, right? It's the 1500/1500/1.5 plan you mentioned.
As far as adding the time to your current plan. You would need to activate this new phone with your existing number, make sure your account is updated for time and other benefits, then after a day or two activate your old phone again and all services should be back on your phone. So you may need to be on this other phone for a day or so.

ok so I actually have this phone unlocked from last year. I pull my tmobile sim and put it into the phone. It connected to band 66. not sure if the attachment works. i was able to make phone call. from what I understand phone is suppose to connect to multiple band at once but I dont know android that well to provide that info. it seems that it only connected to 66

Band 66 is 5G? : r/tmobile
What software are you using to show which band it connects to?

This phone is not too shabby. Scrolling through icons seems smooth. The Google news feed (left swipe) a bit staggered but overall I am impressed compared to my other Moto G (base) phones.
