Hotel maint here. I have an off brand version. It's helped me find pinhole leaks behind walls and Loose electrical connections. It is worth having in your arsenal. This is expensive though. Go with a Chinese copycat with good reviews.

A few suggestions which ones to consider or at least WHAT features should we look for specifically?

It's useful but rarely used. The only feature I know of and used is the thermal lol. The fact that it has saved me time from searching and I didn't have to tear up a bunch of drywall. Another item to pair with this is one of the small digital scopes.

I've tried out
FLIR ONE PRO ($349.80) and TOPDON TC002C DUO ($242.00) before getting the android version of this FLUKE TC01A ($261.41)

not a professional so I may have missed something, but I just couldn't get the overlaying image to calibrate/line up for both the FLIR and TOPDON so I ended up returning them and just kept the FLUKE since it was super cheap during prime day sales

The FLUKE doesn't even have a overlay option, only PIP... but whatever I give up at this point

I also got 2 handheld ones by YUKICAM ($101.26) which also don't have the best image quality but they're just for emergency use at my other locations and they work for basic stuff

the one good thing about the FLIR is that it had an adjustable plug so it can fit on phones with cases, whereas the other 2 don't

Are there specs that justify this being so much more than a typical aio unit ?

Sheesh... are these really that expensive to make or are people just paying for the name? Or is this one really so much better than the cheaper ones?

I have the Flir One, and if I was going to get another thermal camera, I'd get an all-in-one device with its own display. With the Flir One, it's a bit of a pain to take it out of its case, charge it up via USB-C (because the internal battery is invariably dead), start it up (takes several seconds), plug it into my phone, start the app (which is supposed to start automatically), wait for the app to find the device, then when the connection drops after about every 10-15 seconds, wait for it to reconnect, etc. The only advantage to the Flir One is that it's small, so it rides around with me in my gadget bag at all times, so if I ever need it randomly, I'll have it. But, I've never had an unexpected need for thermal imaging that justified digging it out and going through the whole process.
This Fluke could be much better, though.

If you just need one of these to do an audit of your home's wiring or insulation, you can rent a unit for one hour at almost any Home Depot.

Hope that is helpful for others like me that don't use this technology for work. I really wanted to scope out our new home when we bought it and was considering buying.

I don't have this, but I do have a thermal camera. When our roof was leaking I was able to see exactly where the water was reaching the drywall so I could patch it up. I've also found cold draft spots in the winter to fix. Also whenever you're out in the woods or camping at night and you just want to know if people or animals are in your zone it's kind of cool to have the superpower of seeing what's around you.

Other than those specific uses I don't use mine much more, but it has come in handy for those times I needed it.

That mirrors my experience with these little plug in cameras. neat on the surface but a pain in the ass to actually use. Mine would constantly drop connections and need to recalibrate. The USB connector is also pretty short and I'd have to take my phone case off to use it.

I ended up getting a cheap dedicated unit that is leagues bettera and was probably the same cost. It's the size of digital camera-- but like you, I'm never actually going somewhere that I surprise need a thermal camera. If I need my thermal I'm bringing it with me.
