Agreed. I got the 5 speaker set a few years ago now and it's been a great home theater on a budget.

I realize this likely highly depends on the sound bar, the room it's in, etc - but in general, would just these two and any given receiver necessarily be better than most sound bars? I understand sound bars with surround speakers will have an edge in that regard, but what about ones that are "all in one" bars with up firing speakers and (small) subs built in (eg Sony HT-A5000 5.1.2ch Dolby Atmos Soundbar [sony.com])

Yes, I'm a longtime budget audiophile. Real speakers, positioned correctly, are better than any soundbar. I'm not gonna knock those with soundbars as they're still better than TV speakers, but a good budget multi speaker setup is gonna destroy a soundbar with providing a true surround sound experience. A basic Yamaha 5.1 receiver, a basic powered subwoofer, and these series of speakers will be adequate and give you a great home theater or even a great stereo music listening experience.

I had to ditch my sound bar due to hating that commercials were 5x louder than the show. I never found a solution for that. Sad.

What's fake about them? Jamo has been around since 1968, and sold a million speakers by 1978. In 2008 their model R909 won awards for best high-end speaker in Europe. Sound is a personal decision and if someone doesn't like the way Jamos sound, that's their choice, but they are anything but fake.

Well, you bring up some very good points on why it depends.
Excluding the biggest one which is two completely different users.

These two speakers which are considered entry level, cannot create a surround sound without ironically, an algorithm.
Which soundbars are completely based on.

There are always trade-offs, even with traditional setups.
As just one example, these are budget speakers, whether higher end speakers are worth it is a trade-off & personal choice.

Thank you, follow up question: DO you have any feelings about these vs the similarly priced Energy deal (CF-50) or the cheaper Energy CF-30s?

Do they have pretty similar quality considering it appears they're all made by the same company, or significant differences?

These are great speakers for the $$$ Dad put these in his "budget" system and it sounds almost as good as my $6000 speakers, especial as part of a home theater system. Klipsch owned this company when they made these speakers and they have a very similar sound signature, maybe a little less open than a typical Klipsch under $1000 set of speakers, but every bit as good.

All 3 have pros and cons but they are all entry level & not hard to drive.

These or the 50s likely worth the extra $50.
The 50s likely provide slightly better bass response.
Overall both are good entry-level speakers.

Dope, I grabbed the CF-50, curious to see how it performs.

Thanks!
