This free year of Google AI Pro is aimed at college students and stands out for Gemini Pro, NotebookLM, and the extra Google storage. The strongest appeal is the upgraded coding help, with small apps and personal projects getting much better results than before. Access runs through SheerID, so the signup asks for name, school, email, and document proof, and the entered school details cannot be changed after submission. Google Fi Wireless managed plans are not eligible yet, making verification the main hurdle.

I was offered one year of Gemini Pro free or You Tube premium with Gemini Pro for $8.99 a month and it said this is valid for up to four years. The $8.99/mo for four years seems like the best deal if you want YT premium and the 5TB storage for a few years and can provide student verification.

I was able to sign up for this. Pretty timely since my Google storage was running out of space. Now wondering what I can use it for the year. Like there NotebookLM app for research. Will look into more usage like creating personal apps.

Failing students because of your personal opinion on AI is both petty and lame. There are many ways a student can use AI that doesn't automatically mean the AI did the actual work for them. You might as well fail students for using wikipedia or even the internet at all. If they didn't go to a physical library and read the actual books, they fail. Also, what do you people actually think will happen? That your personal disdain for AI, or punishing anyone who uses it, is going to make it go away? Because that's certainly something that has historically happened with new technology. /eyeroll
I agree either way this, my son failed a class due to it being flagged ai long story short it was journaling which he actually did but used an ai platform just to summarize his actual journaling notes , he had no recourse after trying to explain, I saw his manual journaling and even tried to mom my way into a meeting with the teacher but she would not budge because his actual computer work was ai . idk how to make sure they are not completely using it without actual work , but i certainly use it for work just to help, but i actually have to manipulate it snd do my actual job, it just helps me be more efficient and get more work done, should I be fired because I am more productive using ai?

With a job the focus is on output. With school the focus is on the process of developing skills and critical thinking so it's two different things. Did he indicate when he turned the work in that AI was used to summarize his journaling notes so it was clear that this portion of the assignment was not his work? One thing I learned in school is that the sources for anything I submitted always had to be cited.

Once you submit the name and school name, they will ask you for documentation. It doesn't look like you can go back and change this. I submitted the wrong name and school and can't figure out a way to change it to the right one.
Maybe try on another device

When you do it on another device, the name and email you submitted is already remembered

If you have an edu email, then easy, just create a sample document for the AI to verifiy.

So, recent studies have found that when you offload your thinking to an AI, it's like a muscle that completely atrophies. You start losing critical thought abilities. Take jobs from AI, use your brain!
