Switch 1 games run on Switch 2. A lot of great games on Switch 2 at the moment. Fantastic time to buy.

This trade in deal mainly turns a Switch OLED or original Switch into a cheaper Switch 2, with the strongest appeal being the high trade value and easy in store pickup when the promo is recognized. The Switch 2 adds 1080p, HDR, VRR, faster loads, and smoother gameplay, while still playing Switch 1 games. The main knocks are the LCD screen, which can look washed out or smeary next to OLED, and the shorter battery life. Trade in rules and store handling vary, so accessories, model selection, and promo application can affect the final total.
Common Questions (5)
The dock is often not required, and several trade-ins went through with only the console, Joy-Cons, and power adapter/cable. Some stores asked for more accessories or scrutinized missing cables, so bringing the dock and original items can help avoid a reduced value.
Yes for most games: digital games stay tied to your Nintendo account, and system transfer can be done before you own the Switch 2. Animal Crossing and some Pokémon saves need special transfer steps or Nintendo support, and cloud backup requires Nintendo Switch Online.
The Switch 2 screen is sharper, larger, and has HDR plus VRR, but the OLED still wins for black levels, contrast, and color pop. For dark games and handheld use, the OLED is often described as visibly better; for bright games and smoother gameplay, the Switch 2 can look very good.
The promo is tied to ordering the Switch 2, so the usual flow is to place the Switch 2 order online and select trade-in during checkout. Store pickup can apply the credit at pickup, while shipping the trade-in usually means mailing the old console and waiting up to about 2 weeks for the refund.
The trade-in can total $205 for a Switch OLED: $130 as the base trade-in value plus a $75 Switch 2 promo. In some transactions the $75 is applied as an upfront discount on the Switch 2 price, while the $130 is refunded to the payment method or loaded to a gift card.

For store pick up, I think you have to provide the trade in at the same time, as they had to submit it and apply the credit together. I received my $150 trade in credit instantly on my order in my account after I walked out the store.
If you need to save and transfer data, I recommend you do the shipping method. Then you can transfer the data, and then mail the old console in within the time frame. Only down side is you will have to wait up to 2 weeks for them to inspect and then provide the credit.

Why would people pay around $350 for one good exclusive game?
