I did this deal yesterday at my local Best Buy in Yorba Linda, CA Best Buy. I purchased online for pickup. It was ready within an hour, i brought my grey Switch 1 with power cable, dock and straps. I completed the trade in and the only thing they required was the console w/joycons and the power cable. He let me keep the docs and straps. They said they just recycled the other parts. I also had the same issue as the other poster about the rep saying I only get $75 back, i showed the receipt, the manager came and showed me the screen that it does shows $75 trade in and $75 for trade in promo with Switch 2 purchase. He said the $150 will be refunded back to my credit card within 48 hours. Process was easy, the only quality check they did was they made sure it turned on and that iis it.
That's only if you had the original first wave switch correct? They fixed that exploit for the later models. If that's the one you have I would definitely keep it. Totally forgot about that.
You can still trade in the switch for its regular trade in value for a BB gift card and use that towards the switch 2. Compared to gamestop trade in, BB is giving a lot more.
Yep, I traded my switch to GameStop for $140 including the store credit and pro bonus. This is flat out a better deal
I just did the trade in an hour ago so I can explain how my experience was at least, and I'm hoping someone can share some insight on what happened.Basically, I bought the console and trade in online with in-store pick up option. I got my email confirmation showing that the $75 trade in and $75 promotional credit has been accepted for a total of $150. I brought my console and all of the needed items to do the trade in and the best buy work confirmed everything looked good. At the end of the trade in, she mentioned that I will be getting $75 for my trade in, which should not be the case. I told her there was an additional $75 promotional credit that I received for doing the trade in online so I should be receiving $150 total. I even showed her the email receipt showing the two $75 trade in credits (also showed her through the app as well). After looking around a bit, she called her manager over, who then proceeds to tell me that they can not see online promotional offers on their end, which is why it's not showing in their system. But he said that if I did it online and I got the email, I should be getting both $75 trade in credit once everything is finalized. This is my first time doing a trade in with best buy so not sure if this is the norm? Can anyone else share their experience who just did the trade in for this promotion specifically? I'm wondering if I got scammed from best buy and just traded my switch for $75...

How is Switch 2 sales doing now, btw? Switch 2 going on clearance and retailers begging customers to buy them.
Best Buy is selling the Switch 2 at full retail. They're paying 50% market price for Switch 1 consoles in trade credit, because they then make a profit on the Switch 2 and reselling the Switch 1, win win for them.
Number of Xbox (Series X and S) consoles sold since launch in 2020: 35 million
Number of Switch 2 consoles sold since launch in 2025: 24 million
The Switch 2 is doing fine. I do agree it has an upgrade problem though. If you're having fun playing a Switch 1, there's no real reason to upgrade to a Switch 2 until they stop making new games for Switch 1. Also, a lot of people are probably waiting for a Switch 2 Lite or some sort of price break, but that isn't happening because of chip prices.
I've got the S1 OLED and S2 and honestly I prefer the S1 OLED. Better screen, smaller and lighter, better battery life. When I feel like handheld gaming, 90% of the time I grab the S1 OLED.

Yeah, the S2 isn't nearly the upgrade I was expecting. I'll wait for the refresh in a year or two.
Honestly if you have a Switch OLED in good condition, you are better off keeping it. Why? You are only getting up to 130.00. Take a look at what good condition NDS and N3DS systems go for nowadays. Switch is no longer being manufactured. As time goes on their value will increase. There's plenty of examples of S1 games playing worse on S2 hardware. Some have been fixed, others may not.
It's says up to $205 in the description, not $130
