Does it need to stay on straight talk for anywar? Could I put in a 1yr tracfone sim in it and then request an unlock after a year?

I have done similar purchases before (iPhone 13 + cricket wireless $99+$45).

Not all Walmart Associates can do this; it requires special personnel from an associated firm to do this. Only the bigger Walmart stores have these personnel and they work very limited hours.

Similar deals are available for iPhone 16e + cricket wireless/AT&T . Go to the iPhone prepaid display cases and you will see special display cards (usually on top).

I want to take already active tracfone sim and use it in phone without telling customer service. Will it work, then after 1 year unlock?

Need one of these just for iOS beta testing. $194 before tax/fees to get an iPhone. There's no way I'm going to a Walmart store to activate in-store. You can just order the same thing online straight from straight talk and avoid interaction with people. Lol.

looks like you can just add the 1 yr silver plan without paying $45 for the first month. so $509 for the phone and 1 yr service.

IPhone 16e doesn't use a physical sim - it's esim only - so what you're trying to do won't work.
Sims are registered with phone imei so it wouldn't unlock without contacting TF to see if they can rebrand/activate it on TF - and then it will still require a year of new paid TF service.
