This Straight Talk iPhone 16e deal stands out for the low upfront price and the Apple trade in angle, especially if the phone is being used as a short term bridge to gift cards or another iPhone purchase. The 16e is eSIM only, and activation or rebranding to TracFone has worked in some cases through customer service. The main catch is unlocking, since the phone appears to need a full year of new paid service on that specific device, and carryover service may not count. In store activation and trade in results have also been inconsistent, so it is best viewed as a deal with some setup friction.

That's unfortunate, there's conflicting info out there online. I went ahead and bought it since I have a year+ service accumulated with tracfone. Don't have any real need for the straight talk plan so it's kind of a waste but whatever.
Agree it's a waste, but they can't apply plans when rebranding because they're different between the brands.
Online info regarding unlocking isn't reliable if it's before Jan 20, 2026 when the Verizon Value brands changed policies (there a lot of misinformation out there).

Did the plans used to be the more similar? Do we have any sort of resource that outlines the latest rules/changes? How does anyone know for sure what will or won't unlock since it hasn't been a year since the policy change so no phones under it have been unlocked?

Personally I suppose it won't be that terrible if the phone won't unlock if I move it to tracfone since I'll probably just stick with tracfone after that. Guess I just wasted the money on the plan.

There isn't a sim slot on the 16e, so you need to get it rebranded.
  1. You need to read my comment above carefully. Did you see my "LAST STATEMENT" wrote?
  2. You said iPhone 16e doesn't have sim slot. That totally is NOT TRUE. Yes, the US VERSION has 2 eSim only. But the INTERNATIONAL VERSION has NANO SIM + 2 ESIM total. I shows you the specification below to verify my comment. And on Straight Talk website, they didn't say anything about the sim slot. But you look at the picture of the iPhone their posted. There are a NANO SIM SLOT. Look at the picture below.

Just so no one is confused:
the Straight Talk iPhone 16e I have in my hand does NOT have a SIM slot (it is NOT the international version).

Thank for verified. When you turn on and setup, do you see any TracFone logo? Under CARRIER LOCK, do you see WHAT CARRIER is locked in?

Iphones for ST/TW/TF have never had anything but Apple logo/software. Verizon has owned the Verizon Value brands for several years & their locked phones all activate on Verizon.

I went to a SuperCenter where the app said available for pick up within an hour, but clark couldn't find one in their back. He suggested to call the other three nearest supercenter locations, and I did. Where one location has several in stock but doesn't do in store activation and other two also doesn't do in store activation for StreightTalk. I was told the special 3rd party cellular person only deal with AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile activation. Such a phantom deal, I could only see the deal online but not avail anywhere.

Walmart activation has been a problem for several years due to a lack of reliable phone reps (the one at my store covers 4 other locations), it's always best to order direct from Straight Talk if you can.

Unfortunately this $194 iPhone 16e deal is not available online in streighttalk website, is Walmart in store only.

If you search "Straight Talk deals" on the web it also shows up in the results if anyone is having trouble finding it.

So I can buy one of these with the first month prepaid, then I can just stop using the service / keep the phone forever (say I want to use it for wi-fi or trade) and there are no additional charges/clawbacks by Straight talk?
